Today's challenge: Let's see how close we can get the GoPro without wrecking it. #piedmontdrillingandblasting #rockremoval

We're all familiar with these classic pairings: peanut butter & jelly,?Luke & Leia, milk & cookies, and of course everyone's favorite, ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil mixture)?& stemming stone (# 78 pea gravel). Okay...maybe that last one is not exactly classic, but it is a dynamic duo that we rely on heavily here at Piedmont Drilling & Blasting.?Combined with a booster, ANFO is an effective tool to blast rock. The stemming stone ensures that the energy created from the blast is transferred into the rock, where it should be, instead of throwing material up out of the hole. From there, the ANFO takes care of the rest. #rockremoval #piedmontdrillingandblasting?

Rock removal is like a symphony: There are countless steps taken to get to that final exclamation, the triumphant conclusion of the blast. Days to plan and drill (the orchestra is tuning up), hours to load (the tension builds), and a few seconds to blast the rock (the music comes to its crescendo and the crowd goes wild)!? #piedmontdrillingandblasting #rockremoval

How it started vs how it's going--????????????????????? This week we are putting the spotlight on one of our current projects in NC. Pre-Blast Planning: Before the first hole is drilled, a lot of planning goes into our jobs. We start by walking the jobsite and surveying the surrounding area. Following our initial walkthrough, we will conduct an aerial view from Google Earth to map out the potential trench line & flag any surrounding structures to maintain safety for all parties. Development happens quickly! Google Earth can show a wooded area when in reality it has already been cleared in preparation for the project. We'll use all the tools available to us, but sometimes the simplest is the best. There's no substitute for being onsite & getting mud on your boots!

The construction side's been getting most of the exposure here on LinkedIn, so here's a pic from the quarry side. Day in and day out they're steady and reliable and consistent--one might even say, as solid as a rock. We're thankful for all the work they do! ??: Dylan H. If Punxsutawney Phil is in the business of predicting seasons, we're in the business of predicting weather…sort of. In our industry, rain can be detrimental to a shot that has already been drilled out. Lots of holes in the ground? Looks like rain isn't on the horizon (or at least we're praying that it's not). We've spent more time than we'd like cleaning out or re-drilling holes. Shoot that rock before the weather moves in! ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? #piedmontdrillingandblasting #earthmoving #groundhogday #sitework

A sneak peek at one of our current projects: This trench blast contained 208 holes and spanned approximately 520 linear feet. This particular blast was to help the contractor install the sewer main. The shorter trenches you see running perpendicular to the main line will allow the houses' sewers to tie in to the mainline. #rockremoval #earthwork #piedmontdrillingandblasting
