The Pieces Working Summary can alleviate the burden of overly long patient charts, providing concise, current clinical updates for care teams by using generative AI. A common question — how do you ensure accuracy in AI-generated clinical summaries? The process to train and teach AI is a big piece of that puzzle, but prevention and detection of errors is just as important. “Hallucinations” are errors generated by AI, and they can be as subtle as adding an extra letter to a word, or as significant as creating entirely inaccurate content. In healthcare settings, especially, it is both the challenge and responsibility of AI companies to mitigate that risk and report their effectiveness. “If I don’t know Ai, am I going to fail?” is a question many of us are wrestling with. In my conversation on my teaching podcast, #PODWalk with Dr. Ruben Amarasingham, MD he suggested, “Be the Domain Expert first, and figure out how AI applications will help enhance your domain.” There aren't many who have #diverse interests from art, science, coding to sports... Dr. Amarasingham, MD, MBA, is one of those few. His personal purpose is, “Helping Those Who Help Others,” and with that passion he received his MD from @UTSW; his mother’s experience in social work influenced his interest in innovative care models to reduce disparities & led him to a post doctorate in biomedical informatics at Johns Hopkins Medicine Institution. ?His career evolved from physician to #PastPresident of Parkland Health's PCCI to founder of Pieces Technologies, Inc., a healthcare solution that specializes in clinical decision sciences.
