Pie Ranch

Last week, we had the honor of hosting an amazing group of thinkers and do-ers, co-convened by The 11th Hour Project, OpenTEAM, Transformational Investing in Food Systems, and Madelynn Martiniere. As Samuel Oslund put it so well: "This?initiative?grew out of our efforts at 11th Hour Project to ensure technological innovation aligns with the needs of small scale, agroecological farmers. Given agroecology is so contextually specific we see that there is a need to?go upstream to see that farmers and farm workers not simply have access to technology, but have a stake in the way in which technology is developed and how resources are allocated around innovation. When it comes to innovative funding and community led finance we know that social justice organizations have been at the forefront of this thinking. As such we have been intentional about inviting folks from path breaking organizations like Potlikker Capital, Kitchen Table Advisors, and Manzanita Capital. From a governance perspective, we are equally excited to learn alongside innovative organizations, like Zero Foodprint, IndigiDAO, and Big Green DAO, which are developing technological, social, and legal protocols to drive a just transition." We’re thrilled to announce Pie Ranch’s biennial Feast and Fundraiser is returning to the farm this fall! In 2023, we produced Joy Jam: Celebration of Solidarity for the Future of Food. This music and food festival produced in collaboration with the Food Culture Collective welcomed over 500 guests to the farm, and featured musicians, food vendors, and artists. Our plan going forward is to host Joy Jam every other year with 2024 bringing a return to the Whole Pie, an outdoor multi-course meal catered by Just Fare, with farm tours, an exciting live auction, and Pie’s famous barn dance! Pie Ranch staff engage in Solidarity Sessions throughout the year where we do internal work as an organization and also external work by supporting partners in the community.?Puente de la Costa Sur?has been a wonderful partner over many years! We are so grateful?for the critical?work they do, fostering wellness and prosperity in the region by promoting and advocating for equitable access to education, health, and economic security. Recently, Pie Ranch staff helped the?Puente?team clean furniture, move back into their office after doing some renovations, and also helped address letters to their donors. So fun hanging out with everyone at?Puente, and a big thank?you for feeding us!
