No better way to cap off the General Contractors Association’s Annual Meeting than with a photo op in front of the largest civil infrastructure project in the US. Yes, that’s Kiewit /Weeks Marine, Inc.’s barge in the background stabilizing the soil in the Hudson River to prepare for the Gateway Project’s Hudson Tunnel. This $16B mega project will help stimulate the metro NYC economy and create much needed jobs for the talented union men and women that keep the heart our great city beating! ??????????????♀???♂??????? A special congratulations to Picone for their 50th anniversary with GCA and DeFoe Corp for celebrating their 25th.

The Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Coastal Resilience project was recognized in Bentley Systems’ Year in Infrastructure 2024 Going Digital Awards, winning the Founder's Honors Award in the Construction Category. DDC is using the latest technologies and tools to create 3D modeling of subsurface and above ground structures.?Additionally, we have linked schedule (4D) and cost (5D) to the model to effectively monitor progress, eliminate interferences, minimize unforeseen conditions and analyze schedule changes in real time.?When unforeseen conditions and/or delays have arisen, this tool has been effectively used to analyze different alternatives to mitigate such delays. The primary goal of the 4D/5D model/animation is to help a group of stakeholders visualize the scope of work and to aide with construction sequencing, clash detection, traffic management and the phasing of the construction project based on the Contractor’s means and methods and to visualize the Planned, Earned and Actual monetary value of the work done throughout the project life cycle. We congratulate our partners GPI / Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. for their efforts on this critical project.

Today marks the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated entire neighborhoods, killing 44 New Yorkers and causing approximately $19 billion in damage citywide. The City is working on projects large and small to protect vulnerable communities from the impacts of climate change. We continue to make progress on the East Side Coastal Resiliency project. We recently completed the first section of the project ahead of schedule and under budget, a major milestone in the effort to protect more than 120,000+ Lower East Side residents, including 28,000 in public housing, from future storms and high tides and protect billions of dollars worth of infrastructure and property in the area. ESCR also has a companion project to its south called?Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Coastal Resilience (BMCR), which is also due to be completed at the end of 2026. Together, the two projects will protect 3.22 miles of coastline from the Brooklyn Bridge north to Asser Levy Playground at a construction cost of close to $2 billion. DDC is also working with our partners on the Red Hook Coastal Resiliency Project, which is aimed to reduce flood risks due to coastal storm surge and sea level rise along Red Hook’s waterfront. DDC builds other resilient infrastructure all over the city, including rain gardens and storm sewers, and we’ll be on the front lines of future cloudburst projects that protect specific communities from high intensity rainstorms.
