???New Article! AI-Driven Vision Monitors Instant Noodle Quality in Production??? Did you know that over 100 billion servings of instant noodles are consumed annually? During the pandemic, demand surged by 10%! With such high demand and tight production timelines, maintaining consistent quality is crucial. Machine vision cameras can detect defects in instant noodles in mere milliseconds, ensuring that every serving is perfect. This Photonics Media article by Steve Zhu explores how a combination of image processing from Teledyne DALSA's Sherlock AI vision software and the Astrocyte AI training tool, along with images captured by Teledyne DALSA's Genie Nano and Linea camera systems, work in tandem to provide high-resolution imaging and real-time analysis, accomplishing accurate defect detection in noodle inspection. ?? A compact, solid-state, nanosecond laser system capable of generating 193-nm coherent light — a wavelength crucial for the fabrication of silicon wafers — could greatly enhance the efficiency and precision of semiconductor lithography and open new paths to advanced manufacturing techniques. The advance comes from a team at the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and reportedly marks the first time that a 193-nm vortex beam has been produced with a solid-state laser: #Photonics #Lasers #Lithography

Tapping the Terahertz: Capturing Clues in Tissue Hydration Photonics Spectra | Jan/Feb 2025 Breakthroughs in terahertz system design are transforming the landscape of biomedical imaging – bringing once-theoretical concepts closer to real-world application. While clinical adoption is still on the horizon, the momentum is undeniable. “Not long ago, terahertz systems occupied entire optical tables,” recalls Anselm Deninger, Director of Technical Sales at TOPTICA Photonics. “They were impressive, but far from portable.” Today, compact and versatile setups are redefining what’s possible, with the promise of bedside diagnostics becoming a tangible goal. Curious how terahertz technology could unlock new insights in tissue hydration? Read Doug Farmer’s insightful article to explore how researchers like M. Hassan Arbab and Enrique Castro Camus contribute to this exciting shift in biomedical photonics. Link in the first comment. A consortium funded by the European Union (EU) is developing advanced high-resolution image sensing technology that could be used in various space missions, including Earth observation, planetary exploration, and scientific research. The three-year Technology for European iNdependence in Space Image Sensor (TENSIS) project will address the EU-based development of advanced CMOS imaging sensors. The project will aim to create a strategic, competitive advantage for European prime and equipment manufacturers and reduce the dependence on critical technologies and capabilities from outside the EU. #Photonics #Imaging #Sensors
