Back at the Chester County Department of Mental Health today for our workshop on Trauma-Informed Care designed for frontline workers, peer support specialists, and behavioral health techs. Many agencies focus on providing trauma informed care training for their clinical staff, but might overlook the importance of trauma informed care training for the rest of their front line staff who are likely to have more interactions with patients on a daily basis. Today we explored the foundations of trauma, different types of trauma, the connection between trauma and other mental health issues, and the basics of trauma informed care. there were a few themes that emerged such as: -reconsidering difficult client behaviors as possible trauma responses -examine communication styles (verbal and non verbal aspects) and their impact on clients -boundary setting in trauma recovery -transference and retraumatization -how to respond to clients sharing about trauma -managing anger with clients -growth from trauma Thank you to everyone who joined us and to Chester County for the ongoing collaboration! Don’t miss future free trainings offered at the county. Reach out to us directly if you are interested in providing a similar training for your staff at your agency!
