Shannon opined on the challenges women face, often spurred by the messaging we receive. One particular perspective she shared that I had to write down: "Men are taught to follow their dreams; women are taught to fulfill their obligations." If there's one thing I believe in, its freedom. Freedom from harming norms and freedom to become who we are meant to be, in this life. This is #SoundtrackSaturday and I'm still reveling in a week of gratitude and the performing arts! Music is something I am deeply grateful for because of its healing power. Earlier in the week I gifted my beloved sister with tickets to see MJ, the Musical and she was delighted with the surprise. Man in the Mirror is her FAVORITE song. Off the Wall is what I consider to be MJ's most classic work in his repertoire. And then the week culminated in us going to the cinema to see the film adaptation of Wicked. Is there anything Cynthia Erivo can't do??!! I saw the stage version over 10 years ago and that final scene in Act 1 is hard to forget. As I listen to the lyrics from "Defying Gravity" I pay close attention to this stanza: "Something has changed within me Something is not the same I'm tired of playing by the rules of someone else's game Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep It's time to trust my instincts Close my eyes and....leap" What do you see when you look at the person in the mirror? When was the last time you held your breath and jumped? What do you hear when you listen to your gut? How will you defy gravity in the weeks ahead to close out strong in 2024?
