Look to Ability 360 to help navigate an uncertain world! ? PCA's Multi-Modal Connectivity Committee toured the Ability 360 facility on Friday to learn what makes their model unique. The Committee's goal was to understand how to strengthen safety within our public realm and transportation network. With a core staff of more than 120 employees, the Ability team is responsible for guiding individuals and families into a new world through their Center for Independent Living, which is only one of three facilities nationwide. Throughout their 45,000-square-foot center, they provide continuum of care programs to acclimate people who are disabled or who recently became disabled. The lived-in experience of the organization's board and staff, half of whom are disabled, helps mentor clients back toward stability and success. Ability 360 provides up to 40 classes in a typical week. Their sports center includes dozens of specially modified wheelchairs for clients who want to retrain for a sport. Elsewhere, they provide a wide range of care, from non-medical home care in Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal Counties to home modification, training, and mentorship services. Their facility was designed for optimal accessibility for those with visible and invisible disabilities in mind. For instance, gym equipment is spaced for ease of usage and different textured flooring assists the visually impaired to safely navigate the center. ?? Fun Fact: Brandon Ramsey, our Membership Services Director, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, which recently just celebrated its 13th anniversary! Thank you to the Ability 360 staff for an enlightening tour that further informed the Committee's goals. We are inspired by the perseverance you instill in those who pass through your doors!
