As part of our ongoing commitment to empowering students, we're proud to highlight our efforts during National Disability Employment Awareness Month #NDEAM 2024! This year’s theme, 'Access to Good Jobs for All,' aligns perfectly with our mission at HMS.
Our cafeteria crew, working alongside occupational therapists and teachers, gains valuable workplace experience by setting up for lunch each day.
Many of our students also participated in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Career Path and Complete Eats programs, where they handed out meals to those in need, developing essential skills in communication and community service.
Additionally, our students took part in running a school store, where they gained hands-on experience with cash handling, sales, order placement, and packaging skills.
Through these job shadowing experiences, we aim to open new doors for our students as they near transition age, allowing them to collaborate with other schools and explore career paths through programs like CHOP Career Path and PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
What initiatives have you seen in your community to support employment for individuals with disabilities?
