We would like to welcome our newest team member, Jenna Folk. Jenna finds passion in learning about the world around her and gaining new perspectives in order to create a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable built environment for all people. Jenna was an intern at Phillips & Donovan Architects for her final two summers of college, before joining the team as an architectural designer and draftsperson to begin her professional career. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in the spring of 2024 with a Bachelor of Architecture and a minor in German. In her final year she completed a thesis project that explored how gender norms and binaries are perpetuated in architecture and considered a new design process for architecture, since humans cannot fit into the norms and labels that society has constructed over time and these labels are linked so strongly to space. She is passionate about creating spaces that embrace the diversity and uniqueness of people, since architecture intersects so greatly with humanity and holds our feelings and histories. Jenna has a love for travel and exploring new places, hiking, fly-fishing, spending time at the beach with her family, and watching Penn State football.

Back in 2017, we had the pleasure of designing an artist's studio in Bedminster, PA. This was another one of our outstanding Timberpeg projects. What is Timberpeg? Timberpeg is a company specializing in timber frame construction, which uses high-quality wood to create beautifully crafted structures. Their designs often emphasize exposed wooden beams, open spaces, and sustainable building practices, making them a popular choice for homes, studios, and commercial buildings with a rustic yet elegant aesthetic. #throwbackthursday

We were honored to partner with Iglesias de Restauración Unidos en Cristo in Allentown to design a foundation system for a walk-in cooler supporting their community food bank. This project came to us through a referral—a connection we’re always grateful for! Being able to donate our services for such a meaningful cause is a privilege. Listening is one of our most valuable tools, helping us align precision with creativity to meet our clients’ goals. Throughout the design process, we prioritize collaboration, holding regular meetings to review in-progress drawings and gather insights. This ongoing dialogue ensures that each project reflects our clients’ vision while achieving a successful, innovative result.

Last week, H. Joseph Phillips AIA, LEED AP, attended the 2024 Greenbuild International Conference + Expo in Philadelphia. The conference, a collaboration between the U.S. Green Building Council, the Mass Timber Industry, and the Passive House Institute US, focused on sustainable building practices. Topics ranged from energy efficiency, building materials, and resilient design to regenerative ecosystems and LEED certification. Phillips & Donovan Architects is committed to designing sustainable buildings. We're currently working on projects using Passive House standards and eco-friendly materials like Mass Timber, and we've completed LEED-certified buildings. Let's work together to build a better future for our communities and the planet.

Remember those summer days lounging by the pool? A few years ago, Phillips & Donovan Architects LLC designed this beautiful poolside addition. With a full bathroom, living area, and kitchen, it's the perfect space for entertaining guests and enjoying the outdoors. And during the winter months, it transforms into a cozy retreat for family gatherings.
