PNAMDC Election 2024 Voting period: November 14 - December 14, 2024 Alicia calayag De Leon for Board Member “My goal in running for a board member position with PNAMDC is tocontinue to advocate for the needs of Filipino nurses while fostering professional development and community engagement. I aim to strengthen our organization's impact by promoting initiatives that enhance support, cultural competency, and career advancement opportunities for our members.” Alicia V. Calayag De Leon, BSN, RN, is a compassionate registered nurse with a rich background in healthcare. She graduated with a Nursing Diploma from Bohol Provincial Hospital School of Nursing in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines, and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Manila Central University. With a deep-seated passion for helping others, Alicia has garnered extensive experience across various nursing fields, including Rehabilitation, Medical, Surgical with telemetry, and the Kidney Transplant Unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital. After retiring from the hospital setting, she transitioned to Home Healthcare, where she currently serves as an RN Supervisor, allowing her to continue her commitment to patient care in a more personalized environment. Alicia has been an active member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC (PNAMDC) since 2001, participating in the Philippine Medical Mission until 2017. Throughout her tenure, she has held various leadership roles, including Public Relations Officer, General Assembly/Picnic Committee Chair, and currently serves as Auditor. Her dedication to PNAMDC is deeply rooted, as she shares the organization's vision and goals, particularly in humanitarian and community services. Her contributions to the community have been recognized through several awards, including the Excellence in Recognition for Outstanding Global Community Service, acknowledging her loyalty, dedication, and compassion toward PNAMDC's medical missions. Additionally, she received the Most Outstanding Migrant Award for Community Service and Promotion of Cultural Diversity from the Migrant Heritage Commission. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Alicia enjoys ballroom dancing, tending to her garden, and cherishing time with her grandchildren. She also dedicates alternate weekends to serving as the Secretary of the Alexandria Asian American Lions Club, where she provides community services focused on diabetes, pediatric cancer, vision, environment, hunger and other humanitarian efforts. Alicia's commitment to service and her love for her community continue to inspire those around her.

I believe that by championing their needs and empowering their voices, we can enhance the professional landscape for our nurses and strengthen the impact of PNAMDC's important work.” Geneviv Lobaton, BSN, RN, CNOR is a dedicated Operating Room Nurse at Georgetown Hospital, where she plays a crucial role in patient care and surgical procedures. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from San Pedro College in Davao City, equipping her with the knowledge and skills essential for her profession. With a strong commitment to excellence in nursing, Geneviv has embraced opportunities for personal and professional growth. She uplifts her fellow OR RN colleagues by serving as a certification coach, helping them achieve their professional goals and enhancing the overall quality of care provided in the operating room. Geneviv's contributions to the field have not gone unnoticed; she has received recognition for nursing excellence from Inova Neuroscience Service, highlighting her dedication and impact in her role. As an integral member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metro DC (PNAMDC), Geneviv is committed to expanding her professional network and enhancing her leadership capabilities. Inspired by the founders of PNAMDC, I want to influence the next generation of nurses by showcasing our offerings and guiding them toward positive change.” Ivette “Ivie” Pray, RN is a devoted registered nurse with a specialization in maternal child health and a strong focus on quality improvement. With a robust professional background, Ivie has previously served as a Leapfrog program manager and a Patient Safety Professional Manager, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her current role. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Lean Leader, underscoring her commitment to efficiency and excellence in healthcare. Ivie’s notable experiences include being an integral member of the Walter Reed Joint Commission Tracer Team, where she contributed to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety. Her leadership extends to her role as a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) council, reflecting her commitment to fostering an inclusive environment in healthcare settings. Outside of her professional endeavors, Ivie is passionate about community engagement and service. She actively volunteers her time, from serving as a football team mom to supporting organizations like the Filipino American Cancer Care (FACC). Her dedication to community service has been recognized through prestigious accolades, including the Presidential Volunteer Award from FACC and Safety Awards from the Quality Director and Brigadier General Teyhan. As a retired Filipino American nurse, I have strong connections within the Filipino community in Washington, allowing for effective communication. I aim to enhance PNAMDC’s public relations to boost member recruitment and ensure a positive representation of the organization. My goal is to foster enjoyable volunteer experiences for all members, especially during medical missions in the Philippines. I hope to be elected as a PRO to make a meaningful impact.” Judy Campanilla, BSN, RN is a committed registered nurse with a rich and diverse career spanning over four decades. She graduated from the Lorma School of Nursing in the Philippines in 1980 and began her nursing journey in Baguio City’s Health Department, where she served for three years. Judy then moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she worked for eight years in the nursery and pediatric departments at Al-Qunfudha General Hospital. In 1992, Judy relocated to the United States, starting her career as a staff nurse at Leewood Nursing Home, where she quickly rose to the position of Nurse Supervisor. She later transitioned to home health nursing with Professional Healthcare Resources before returning to her passion for pediatrics. For 23 years, Judy worked as a step-down NICU nurse at Washington Hospital Center, where she made significant contributions to the care of vulnerable newborns. She retired from the hospital in November 2023. In addition to her nursing career, Judy partnered with her husband to establish a family business, opening two small assisted living homes in Springfield, Virginia, which are licensed for eight clients each. Despite her retirement from the hospital, Judy continues to work part-time as a delegating nurse for the family business, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to healthcare and community service.

Jerlin Harbort for Auditor “I am eager to make a meaningful impact, not just only through my work with Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC but also within the broader community it serves.” Ma. Jerlin Harbort, BSN, RNC-IAP, C-EFM was born in Iloilo, Philippines, and graduated from West Visayas State University College of Nursing in 1990. Following her graduation, she embarked on a diverse nursing career, gaining valuable experience in various nursing specialties. Her last position in the Philippines was in the Intensive Care Unit at Chinese General Hospital in Manila. In 1993, Jerlin moved to New York City, where she began her nursing career in the United States at the City of New York Hospitals Corporation. Over a span of six years, she served at Queens General Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she encountered some of her most profound experiences as a nurse. After starting a family, Jerlin took a short break from her nursing career to become a full-time mom to her two daughters. In 2005, she relocated to the DMV area and resumed her professional journey at George Washington University Hospital, where she currently works as a full-time Labor and Delivery nurse. In her role, she serves as charge nurse, preceptor, OR circulator, and scrub nurse, while also obtaining several certifications to enhance her skill set. Jerlin's commitment to community service led her to become actively involved with Rotary Club International, where she now serves as the Public Image Chair of the Falls Church Rotary chapter. Additionally, she contributes as the Archive person and co-chair of the Membership Committee, focusing on event planning and membership engagement. Looking ahead, Jerlin is set to participate in a Medical Mission to Agoncillo, Batangas, this January, reflecting her ongoing dedication to serving others and making a positive impact in her community and beyond.

PNAMDC Election 2024 Voting period: November 14 - December 14, 2024 Teresita Usita for Treasurer “I am committed to doing my utmost to support both the local community and the great work of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC. My gol is to contribute positively and help advance the important work being done for our nurses and the wider community we serve.” Teresita Morete Usita, MBA-HCM, BSN, RN is a distinguished nursing professional with a robust educational background and extensive experience in critical care. She holds an MBA with a major in Healthcare Management from Colorado University and graduated in 1991 from UPHR, now known as Perpetual Help University. Throughout her journey, Teresita exemplified perseverance and resilience, balancing her studies while pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse and moving to the United States. Her nursing career began at the King Fahad National Guard Hospital in Saudi Arabia, where she worked until 2002. As a Trauma Adult ICU manager, she played a pivotal role in establishing a successful Liver Transplant program, providing critical care to numerous National Guards. Upon relocating to the U.S., Teresita enhanced her expertise at Washington Hospital Center in the Surgical ICU, where she gained invaluable leadership and bedside experience. She also worked in the CVICU at Inova Alexandria and ICU Fair Oaks, and currently serves as an Employee Health Nurse for Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States. Her involvement in extensive heart surgeries and trauma care has been both rewarding and fulfilling. Teresita is passionate about the mission of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC (PNAMDC) and aspires to take on the role of Treasurer. She believes in the power of collective effort to support one another and cherishes the camaraderie within the organization, holding deep respect for its leaders and members who tirelessly serve and uplift each other.

PNAMDC Election 2024 Voting period: November 14 - December 14, 2024 AIMEE SARMIENTO for President-Elect “I want to make an impact in the community by getting involved in the advocacies of PNAMDC in healthcare equity, nursing education and advancement, and highlighting Filipino nursing excellence in healthcare. I aim to lead initiatives that will promote diversity in the organization by reaching out to nurses in all fields of nursing practice in the DMV area. I will continue to support the dental-medical missions in the Philippines to help bridge the supply of medical support to the ongoing needs of fellow Filipinos in our motherland.” Aimee Sarmiento, BSN, RN, RAC-CT, CMGT-BC is a dedicated and experienced registered nurse with over three decades of service in the healthcare field. Graduating in 1992 from Cebu State College-Cebu City Medical Center College of Nursing in Cebu City, Philippines, Aimee began a fulfilling nursing career that has spanned various roles and responsibilities. In 2005, Aimee and her family migrated to the United States through the international nurse recruitment program of Futurecare Health and Management Inc., where she continues to contribute her expertise. Throughout her journey, she has excelled in subacute care settings, taking on pivotal roles such as charge nurse, unit manager, performance improvement manager, infection control preventionist, and assistant director of nursing. Currently, she serves as a regional care manager, demonstrating her commitment to patient care and healthcare excellence. A member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC (PNAMDC) since 2021, Aimee has actively participated in various community initiatives. Her efforts include serving in a medical mission in Camiguin, Philippines, managing a health screening booth during the Philippine Independence Day event, and contributing to the "Ate and Kuya program," which supports internationally educated nurses in the DMV area. In response to the ongoing RN staffing crisis, Aimee established Believe Manpower Resources in 2023. This recruitment company aims to address staffing challenges by connecting qualified nurses from the Philippines and around the world with opportunities in the United States. Beyond her professional commitments, Aimee is a secretary for the Filipino Council of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and a member of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals Metro DC Outreach. Her passion for music has led her to participate in the choirs of the Joy In The Spirit community and St. Bernadette Church, where she also serves as a lector. Aimee's diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to nursing and community service reflect her commitment to making a positive impact in both her professional and personal life.
