“VoicesDMV is about more than just gathering and sharing information,” Darius Graham, The Community Foundation’s Managing Director of Community Investment shared. “It’s about turning information into action and making sure our work and that of our partners is directly informed by residents.” The Community Foundation is excited to announce the 2024 VoicesDMV Community Action Awards. The awards are part of The Community Foundation’s VoicesDMV community engagement initiative, which unveiled its most recent Community Insights Report earlier this year. https://lnkd.in/eWSar2ma

Many of our early learning partners are navigating a child care system that has conflicting quality expectations, constant regulatory changes, and duplicative oversight. Some child care options are under-regulated, others over-regulated, and some are a mix of both. In addition, WeVision EarlyEd proximity experts (families included) want to make more quality-centered and child-centered decisions but are limited by what they can afford. At the 2024 NARA – NWRA Licensing Seminar and Leadership Symposium, our team members, Demetria Joyce and Marica Cox Mitchell, explored these complexities with regulatory experts. A key takeaway? We need to streamline regulations and provide families with two clear and funded child care options: early childhood education programs that must meet the industry-recognized quality baseline, and trusted caregivers (e.g., family members, stay-at-home parents, nanny, au pair, community member, etc.). We're proud to have once again taken the stage at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 2024 Annual Legislative Conference! In collaboration with JPMorganChase, our powerful panel, “The Future of Black Business: Equity in Procurement and Philanthropy’s Role in Driving Access,” ignited critical discussions on the inequities Black-led firms face in small business procurement.
