Ethan Ashbrook '25 is a Kenyon College Environmental Studies major who has recently completed two research projects for the Conservancy's benefit. His research has focused on GIS data, geospatial analysis and mapping in addition to producing a current conditions report for an existing conservation easement. We are excited that Ethan was able to attend the Land Trust Alliance's Rally 2024 in September and can't wait to hear all that he learned!
I'm grateful to have been able to attend Land Trust Alliance Rally 2024! I got to see phenomenal conservation speakers, and take workshops on topics ranging from freshwater systems to land trust functions like easement drafting, fundraising, and real estate. Thank you to the Kenyon College ENVS department and Amy Henricksen at Philander Chase Conservancy for helping me reach this opportunity!

This summer, working on behalf of the Philander Chase Conservancy, I completed a full conservation easement survey and report on 374 acres of the Brown Family Environmental Center. In the process, I assembled a database which Kenyon students, faculty, and green centers can use to build research projects, curriculum, and sustainability programs. Through this, I hope that even more people will be able to engage with our wonderful preserve. This opportunity was made possible by Kenyon’s ENVS Summer Sustainability Scholarship, funding which I am extremely grateful for. Thank you to the Brown Family Environmental Center and the Philander Chase Conservancy for taking me on board, and working closely with me throughout this whole process!
