The Philadelphia Robotics Coalition is building an ecosystem of mentorship and support for the next generation of STEM and community leaders in the city of Philadelphia by supporting robotics programs for Philadelphia public school students. - We provide funding and support for student robotics teams to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League international robotics competitions. - We organize workshops and competitions for the teams. - We provide training and support for coaches. - We connect teams with adult mentors who advise the students on programming, mechanical design, and presentation skills. Participation in a robotics program allows students to put what they learn in the classroom into practices, putting math and science to work, to engineer, and build a machine together. Students develop technical skills in engineering, math, and business. They also learn workforce skills like communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and time management.

I’m thrilled to announce that Girls Who Code is partnering with NBC on the upcoming movie, The Wild Robot, featuring one of my favorite actresses, Lupita Nyong’o. Technology is everywhere, and many of the greatest movies wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of women in STEM. That’s why I’m so excited we can use innovative tools, including movies, as an educational resource to showcase the intersection of STEM and art, all while making learning fun for our students and community. The technologists behind the film not only serve as great role models for our students, but the themes of The Wild Robot also resonate deeply with the values we instill in them. Roz, the main character, embodies perseverance, growth, and self-confidence—qualities that are truly inspiring. We’ve even created a Sisterhood activity for our Clubs students, where they can develop their tech skills and reprogram their thinking, just like Roz in The Wild Robot. Last week, PRC facilitated a training with our partners, The Urban Technology Project (UTP), for their Americorp Digital Service Fellows. We are super excited to welcome 24 additional coaches and mentors to PRC's FIRST LEGO League family. The Americorp DSF's will support the STEM after school programs for 18 schools.
