“AFAHO helped me a lot…they helped with my English…my homework…” PHP grantee partner AFAHO is helping to improve the educational and health outcomes of Philadelphia’s African and Caribbean immigrant youth and refugee youth through their African Youth Empowerment Program (AYEP). AYEP empowers youth with educational skills and resources through their mentorship and after school programs. The goal is to improve academic success and engage youth in post-secondary education and training opportunities to help enhance the future of participants. Pregnant residents who live in Cobbs Creek, Nicetown-Tioga, or Strawberry Mansion and earn less than $100,00 may be eligible for $1000 a month for 18 months -- during pregnancy and the postpartum period. PHP grantee partner New Voices for Reproductive Justice (New Voices) is doing their part to ensure voters are prepared to make fully informed decisions at the ballot box. Their Voice Your Vote! Project engages Black women, Black queer folks, and Black marginalized people to understand the impact of voting and government on their everyday lives - not just during election season, but year-round. ? PHP grantee partner Children First (formerly PCCY) is focused on the importance of making child care and pre-k issues a top priority in elections. Through the Child Care Voter Campaign, they are spreading the word to a greater audience in key districts and sharing policy goals with candidates and communities. By hosting Candidate Conversations, they allow families and local communities to learn about candidates’ views on important issues like child care and early education.
