?? Today Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson presented a letter of commendation to two of five EMS providers who went above and beyond on an emergency response last year. Paramedic Lieutenant Josue Clement and Paramedic Michael Lavery were recognized for their fast thinking and quick teamwork to provide skilled and compassionate care to a person in cardiac arrest. Advanced EMT Brian Gogas, Firefighter Grant Callahan, and Firefighter Luke Millers aren't pictured, but will also receive this letter. (Dial 911 for emergencies) The Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS) to the City of Philadelphia. We are the largest fire department in Pennsylvania, with one of the busiest EMS divisions in the country. Members of the Fire Department fight fires, provide emergency medical treatment, and rescue people from dangerous situations. Our engines, ladders, and ambulances are housed at 63 stations across the City. We have specialized divisions that investigate fires, deal with hazardous materials, and help protect Philadelphia International Airport. We also teach the public about fire safety and work to prevent fires through smoke alarm installation.
