Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) funds and coordinates programs and services to help older Philadelphians and those with disabilities achieve their maximum levels of health, independence and productivity. Through its work, PCA touches the lives of more than 140,000 individuals each year. Services and programs supported by PCA include senior community centers; congregant meals; transportation; housing repairs and modifications; legal services; insurance counseling; care in the home; home-delivered meals; and older adult protective services. Established in 1973, PCA is a private, nonprofit, nationally-recognized Area Agency on Aging. PCA is funded primarily through the Older Americans Act, Medical Assistance and the Pennsylvania Lottery, channeled through the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. One of the region's largest nonprofit organizations, PCA has more than 650 employees in a wide variety of positions, including social work, information technology, support services and administration. For a quarter-century, Carolyn Capozza of Ronco, Pennsylvania has been a tireless advocate for older adults in Pennsylvania. Not only is Carolyn an active participant at her local Area Agency on Aging (AAA), the Masontown Senior Center, she has gone a step further to be an advocate for AAAs across the state. Carolyn, 78 years old, has served on the Southwestern Pennsylvania AAA Advisory Council for 25 years, actively engaged with elected officials to address funding challenges, advocated for increased AAA budgets in southwestern Pennsylvania, and emphasized AAAs' vital role in connecting older adults with essential resources. Carolyn is passionate that AAAs must receive adequate funding so they can continue supporting older Pennsylvanians. Carolyn's story inspires us to get involved in supporting our communities.
