THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE THE 2024 PHILLY JUSTICE BALL A SUCCESS!
Last Saturday, November 9, the legal and civil aid communities came together to celebrate the Philadelphia Bar Foundation’s 60th Anniversary and four exceptional awardees. Marc Bookman of Atlantic Center for Capital Representation received the Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award, Troutman Pepper received the Pro Bono Award for their creation of the Pepper Center for Public Service, the late Frank McClellan received the Trailblazers for Justice Award, and Leslie John was recognized as a Philly Justice Champion.
WHYY’s Cherri Gregg emceed the event with help from Jeff Hammond. We heard from local superstars Mayor Cherelle Parker and District Attorney Larry Krasner who shared remarks about the importance of uplifting the nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly on the frontlines to ensure equal access to justice. Legendary death penalty litigator Stephen Bright presented Marc Bookman with the Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award and expressed his gratitude for Marc and his work. Philadelphia Bar Foundation’s own Mary Mance gave a powerful performance of her original spoken word poem, A Love Letter to Philadelphia. Artist Alloyius Mcilwaine created a live painting inspired by the Ball’s theme that was auctioned at the Ball. It was a night of celebration, inspiration, and coming together as a community to ignite change!
