关于我们
Join our member-exclusive LinkedIn Group: https://www.dhirubhai.net/groups/67341/ __ Since our founding in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa has championed education in the liberal arts and sciences, fostered freedom of thought, and recognized academic excellence. As America’s most prestigious academic honor society, we believe the curiosity and creativity cultivated by a liberal arts and sciences education are essential to making the most of life’s experiences. This is why we: * Honor the best and brightest liberal arts and sciences undergraduates from 286 top schools across the nation through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. * Advocate for the importance of liberal arts and sciences education through our National Arts & Sciences Initiative, and equip members with information and tools to thoughtfully engage in American society as leaders, volunteers, and citizens. * Connect members to a diverse network of high achievers, and provide opportunities to participate in engaging events offered by the national office, our local chapters, and alumni associations. * Engage members with quarterly publications, monthly newsletters, and podcasts, providing perspectives on public affairs, literature, science, history, culture, and career development. * Recognize the exceptional achievement of writers and scholars in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. If democracy is top of mind for you right now, the Society recently hosted a wide-ranging conversation on the civic responsibilities of #LiberalArts and #Sciences education - both on and off campus - guided by Politico Magazine Editor Elizabeth Ralph (ΦΒΚ, Yale University). How can campuses build the democratic skills of working across differences? How can alumni associations grow civic connections, intergenerational mentoring, and community leadership opportunities? What does multidisciplinary arts and sciences research show about democratic resilience? The panel featured University of Maryland Baltimore County President Valerie Sheares Ashby (ΦΒΚ, University of Maryland Baltimore County), Baltimore Community Foundation President Shanaysha Sauls (ΦΒΚ, University of Maryland) Senior Advisor to the Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition Nancy Shapiro (ΦΒΚ, Brandeis University), and SNF Agora Institute Professor and Chair of the Sociology Department at The Johns Hopkins University Andrew Perrin (ΦΒΚ, Swarthmore College). Many thanks to each of our participants for their insightful reflections. Watch here: https://lnkd.in/ghbM-8Pe
