As I hit the three-year mark at Phase2, I’ve been reflecting on lessons learned, the ways my design philosophy has evolved, and how I strive to show up as a creative leader.
Here are three points to mark three years:
Design is about people, not pixels.
? It’s not really about the visuals; it’s about connecting with people to get to the heart of a requirement, a concern, or a question.
? It doesn’t matter how cool your designs are if you can’t talk about them to people who are not designers.
? Whether a stakeholder group is small and focused or large and diverse, being a mediator, consultant, and truth-seeker is non-negotiable.
Tools are temporary. Skills are forever.
? Figma is my go-to, but I don’t stress about every new trick or feature. The tool is just a means to illustrate solutions. The skills behind the work? That’s where the magic happens.
Design and content are a bonded pair.
? Every design starts with a story: What are we saying here? Why does it matter?
? Shoutout to the content strategists I collaborate with—your work is essential to bringing polish to visuals.
I’m grateful for the challenges, collaboration, and growth over these years. Here’s to continuing the journey and pushing creative boundaries!
