Last week we launched the Placement Transformation Series. The second report demonstrates how institutions can engage in "placement-as-transformation" by distinguishing between reform and transformation, providing clear definitions and indicators, and examining the extent to which colleges use placement to spur broader institutional change. It also features case studies showcasing placement-as-transformation in action and highlights the strategies colleges have used to guide these transformative efforts.

In the fall of 2023, we sought out broad-access colleges across the country that were actively engaged in next-generation placement reform. Through interviews with 47 individuals from 15 institutions across 13 states, this series presents innovative placement strategies and the ways they can be leveraged for broader institutional change. Our hope is that more institutions will adopt, scale, and assess these approaches. The first report we are releasing, New Placement Approaches in Broad-Access Institutions, shares a vision for the next phase of placement reform by exploring why colleges are evolving their placement processes, identifying key trends among institutions that are innovating in this area, and outlining three distinct approaches to iteration and innovation.
