There are many lighting and optic options for microscopic ultra high speed imaging. Here are just a few options and techniques with examples.

Amazing light sensitivity at over half a million frames per second (fps)! The Pharsighted E9 camera (available exclusively through your local Photron distributor) doesn't suffer from only being able to record one or two hundred frames. Imagine the issues of triggering a camera with only 100 or 200 frames at half a million fps! The E9 has sufficient memory to record over a seconds worth of data at speeds in excess of 2M fps, enabling you to trigger the camera with your keyboard or good old fashioned, and inexpensive trigger switch. Then you simply download the recorded images to the built-in, commercially available, SSD drive. It's as simple as that!

Thermal stress is mechanical stress created by any change in temperature. Glass, for example, can crack without being touched. ? For our little experiment, we used the #PhotonicLattice CRYSTA PI-1P high-speed polarization camera, a microscope slide and a hot air gun. By heating the microscope slide randomly, we were able to generate sufficient thermal stress to create cracks in the glass. Ballistic testing of safety glass at 75,000 - 600,000 fps. For this, we used the #Pharsighted E9 and the #Photron FASTCAM Nova S20. The entry and exit points of the bullet can be seen.
