Last weekend, our Houston office teamed up with CMTA, Inc. for our first canstruction competition. We carefully selected cans in the Astros' signature colors, featuring ballpark favorites you might enjoy while cheering on the home team. We call it "The Juice Box: Astronomical Nutrition," a tribute to Minute Maid Park as it prepares for a new name next year. ?? ?? Canstruction is creativity for a cause. Teams build sculptures entirely out of cans, and when the event wraps up, all those cans are donated to the Houston Food Bank to help fill shelves. Voting ends tomorrow! Coming from the Southeast Texas coast, flooding has always been something my family, friends, and surrounding communities have been plagued by. Yet endurance and resiliency has kept the area thriving none the less. When I went into architecture I knew I wanted to learn more about how the built environment can help aid the climate crisis and work in tandem with local ecosystems. Once I joined Pfluger Architects I was afforded the opportunity to join the HealthySafe research group, which is one of several the company offers. After a year in the group I was nominated to take over as the R&B lead, which I gladly accepted. As the lead I have encouraged each member to go where they are most passionate, during this research cycle I returned to my grad school roots where I had obtained a certificate in Hazard Management Planning at Texas A&M. With torrential rains and devastating hurricanes becoming common place year after year, I have started the journey of delving deeper into how the world of education can meet rising mitigation needs, which lead me ultimately to my first published article which can be read in APPA Facilities Manager linked below. #meaningfulexperiences https://lnkd.in/gG-4F-md

Last week, we celebrated with the Peabody Elementary community and Dallas ISD to mark the opening of their beautiful new campus. This replacement school is a place where learning feels connected to nature and the neighborhood it serves. Glass walls flood the classrooms with light, creating spaces where students can explore, collaborate, and grow. At the center of it all are spaces designed for creativity: the media center, art and music rooms, and maker space, all wrapped by classrooms to keep the energy and inspiration close. Out front, a welcoming “front yard” provides a gathering space for the community, making Peabody a centerpiece of the neighborhood. Here’s to a bright future for Peabody Elementary and the students who will fill it with life! #meaningfulexperiences

Students at Goose Creek CISD 's Stuart Career Tech High School took center stage this week during EDspaces, leading tours of their campus for visitors from across the country. Completed in 2021, the campus supports programs like culinary arts, automotive technology, and digital communications, designed to prepare students for future careers. Watching the student ambassadors guide guests through their school, taking ownership, and sharing their experiences highlighted just how much the campus is helping them grow and explore their passions. Thank you to Goose Creek CISD, the student ambassadors, and #EdSpaces for making this inspiring event possible! #meaningfulexperiences

Three years of Austin’s Annual Spirit Week and Office Olympics, and it just keeps getting better. ???? Turns out, watching our coworkers play a life-sized game of Hungry Hungry Hippos is exactly what we needed. Blue Team came out on top, with Orange and Navy close behind. #wemakeworkfun #meaningfulexperiences

It's been a month of discovery, brainstorming, and imagining the future at Leander ISD Early College High School. Students, teachers, and more have all stepped in to shape what they want this campus to be. ? In the first workshop, we asked everyone to imagine the future of education. They wrote postcards to themselves in 2038, dreaming about what learning could look like and the kinds of spaces, experiences, and connections that would make it feel more meaningful. ? The second workshop got even more hands-on. Using "space cards," each group mapped out possible campus layouts, balancing collaborative areas, quiet nooks, outdoor spaces, and everything in between. It was the first real glimpse of a campus shaped by their vision and a chance to see what this community values most. ? Last week, we wrapped up with our third workshop, pulling all these ideas together. With actual design examples and dot stickers, the community pointed out what elements felt right to them and those that didn't quite fit. ? When Early College High School opens in 2028, it'll be built on these conversations, ideas, and shared hopes for the future. We can't wait! ? #meaningfulexperiences Pfluger Architects

Designing a school starts with understanding the community’s vision. Before we even begin, we ask an important question: “What is your why?” For each person, this means reflecting on what gives them purpose—their own reason for doing what they do. Whether you’re an educator, a student, a parent, or anyone else, your “why” is the driving force that shapes how you experience and contribute to a school. To bring this purpose to life for Davenport Elementary, we began with a new “Roots & Horizons” exercise that helped Canutillo ISD reflect on where they've been and where they want to go. For the "Roots" portion, we looked back, exploring what’s worked well, what should be carried forward, and where there’s room to grow. In "Horizons," we turned toward the future, creating a vision board full of the hopes and ideas they have for their new school—a place that feels like home for their students and staff. Now, we're carefully going through all that feedback, searching for the nuggets that will shape a design that truly reflects Canutillo ISD's story. #k12design #meaningfulexperiences

Who says you need to wait for construction to experience your new schools? Midland ISD is exploring the future today. ?? This week, T.I.N.A., our VR dome, took Midland on a journey through the designs for their two new high schools—bringing students, teachers, and the community right into the future. It’s been amazing to see their reactions and hear what matters most to them. Thanks to the Midland community’s support of the 2023 bond, these projects focus on redesigning the two high schools to incorporate adaptable, safe spaces that can grow with the city. With Midland High and Legacy reaching their next chapters, we’re excited to help shape schools that will serve students for decades to come.
