Congratulations to Coterra Energy, Avant Natural Resources and Franklin Mountain Energy, LLC on their Delaware Basin transactions this week. Avant sold certain oil and gas assets to Coterra in a $1.45 billion cash transaction that was announced together with a deal between Coterra and Franklin Mountain Energy. Total aggregate consideration for the two Coterra acquisitions was $3.95 billion in cash and stock. Canadian Natural Resources reinforced for investors the value of their unique and disciplined business model. The agreement to purchase for $6.5bn cash Chevron's remaining integrated oil sands and liquids-rich Duvernay assets while increasing their dividend by 7% is hard to compete with. The seller, Chevron, benefited from better operating margins that were crystallized in the price received for the combined assets. The market rewarded the companies with both stock prices rising nicely—a true example of a rare 'win/win' deal. Petrie co-founder Mike Bock interviewed Stuart Page, senior consultant to the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office (LPO).
