Back in May, we ran a poll asking employees how likely they are to bring up their mental health at work. The results were telling. The most popular response was “Not very likely” at 44%. This result is in line with research by NAMI, which found that, while 74% of full-time employees in the US say it is appropriate to discuss mental health concerns at work, only 58% say they feel comfortable talking about their mental health at work. This gap is a problem in our workforce, where employees crave more openness and resources surrounding mental health. The same NAMI survey found that 83% of employees agree mental health and well-being training is, or would be, important in creating a positive workplace culture. On World Mental Health Day, we want to encourage employers to invest in mental health resources and reduce the mental health stigma to create a sense of belonging at work.
