Employers need greater access to health price data and insights that can guide meaningful health plan negotiations and increase access to affordable, high-quality care. Yesterday, One Utah Health Collaborative (OUHC), in partnership with Governor Spencer Cox, announced the adoption of the Utah Model of Care. This innovative model, developed through nearly a year of statewide collaboration across executives, payers, providers and patients, represents a significant step toward creating a healthcare system that is trusted, affordable, and high-quality for all Utahans. Hannah M. and I travelled to Utah for this occasion. I was honored to speak at OUHC’s information session that followed the press conference and to highlight components of the model that resonate with our mission at The Peterson Center on Healthcare to create a high-performing health system for all Americans. Utah is taking a novel approach to tackling healthcare by starting with the data and nurturing public-private collaboration. We are proud to support OUHC in this 15+ year commitment to bend the healthcare cost curve and improve health outcomes for all Utahns. State leaders across the country—and across the political spectrum—have recognized the need for more coordinated and centralized health care system information. In response, they have established state health care data organizations (HDO) to provide a foundation for evidence-based policymaking and rigorous data-driven policy debate. In an October 22 webinar, Kevin McAvey, Joel Ario and Amy Zhan, MPH will join state HDO leaders from across the nation to discuss the country's first state HDO framework, recently released by Manatt Health with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and how HDOs can support state #healthinformation needs. “We are in relentless pursuit of impact. This means identifying the most significant drivers of cost and then finding the leverage points that disrupt, change, or stimulate market and policy actors.” Kalyani Thampi, Associate Director, Programs recently joined experts from insurance and healthcare reform for a timely conversation on marketplace affordability initiatives at Health Management Associates’ annual fall conference. Since states increasingly undertake initiatives to address affordability, panelists focused on how broader efforts are showing up in the individual market/ACA marketplace, which provides an increasingly important landing place for consumers.? #AffordableHealthcare #HealthcareCosts

American healthcare is inefficient. The United States ranks 9 out of 10 in efficiency compared to other high-income countries and its ranks last in health outcomes, according to a new report from The Commonwealth Fund. Healthcare in the United States costs too much for the poor outcomes that result. That’s why the Peterson Center on Healthcare is committed to supporting innovators and identifying new ways to make the U.S. healthcare system more affordable and efficient for all.
