Four long years locked up in solitary confinement could crush even the strongest spirit, but Timothy, a dog who endured this terrible boredom and neglect inside a tiny backyard pen, never lost his zest for life. See how we helped expand his world in a new PETA rescue video. PETA fieldworkers visited Timothy in a decrepit pen in rural North Carolina regularly, doing whatever they could to provide him with comfort and socialization, and each time, they tried desperately to convince his owner to relinquish him. Finally, when Timothy was about 4 years old, our team prevailed—and they wasted no time in unlocking the pen and whisking him away to a loving family in Syracuse, New York. Thanks to PETA, Timothy was freed from a horrible pen and now lives in a loving home, but countless other dogs like him are confined or chained outside 24/7 without adequate food, water, or shelter in all types of weather. When disaster strikes, animals, just like their human companions, can lose everything in the blink of an eye. That’s what happened in parts of western North Carolina when Hurricane Helene unleashed flooding that destroyed homes, roads, and other infrastructure. Residents and their animal companions are still relying on aid for everyday essentials. After the successful rescue of a mother dog and her puppies near the front lines, PETA-supported Animal Rescue Kharkiv’s team was driving to get them to safety when, suddenly, their truck was bombed on the empty road—a drone attack! Thankfully, the canine family and the members of the rescue team all survived and are now safe. The explosive destroyed the vehicle’s engine. Victory! After a push from PETA, five prominent food and beverage companies—PepsiCo. Inc., The Coca-Cola Company, Campbell Soup Company, Fresh Innovations, and Sensient Technologies—are closing their checkbooks and refusing to fund cruel and deadly experiments on animals. The move comes after PETA contacted company leadership, informing them that their money was being used to kill animals in pointless experiments conducted at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Food Research Institute. The institute’s experimenters repeatedly force-fed parasite-infested feces to animals before slicing their bodies open, among other horrors.
