Commissioner Antoinetta Cash Royster, MSW joined nearly 2,000 county leaders from across the country for the National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference March 1-4. Over two general sessions, featured speakers included two cabinet secretaries along with members of Congress from both the U.S. House and Senate. Conference attendees shaped NACo’s legislative agenda, received updates on key federal policies and advocated for county priorities on Capitol Hill. “I attended the conference to not only participate in meetings and workshops on a plethora of local government topics but to also engage directly with federal officials, Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd and U.S. Representative Brad Knott. I experienced first-hand through meetings and dialogue with the Congressmen the importance of developing intergovernmental partnerships with federal officials,” said Commissioner Royster. Issues covered at the conference included tax and budget reconciliation, SALT and tax-exempt municipal bonds, disaster preparedness and management, artificial intelligence, behavioral health and the county implications of policies being implemented during the first 100 days of the Trump Administration and the 119th Congress. The conference culminated in a Capitol Hill Day of Action, positioning attendees to advocate for county federal policy priorities. Commissioner Royster shared, “It did not matter which political party each of us represented. My focus remained on advocating for our federal officials to support initiatives that will address Person County’s economic growth, infrastructure, environmental, health and human services, public safety, and educational needs. There was a mutual understanding that it takes government on all levels working together to make things happen.” National Association of Counties

The property conveyed is Governmental/Tract B as set forth in Plat Book 16 Page 381, in the Office of the Register of Deeds for Person County, North Carolina, containing 25.24 acres, more or less, having a Tax Map & Parcel No: A58 86. The Person County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the sale during a Public Hearing on October 15, 2024. The sale of the property closed on February 24, 2025. ? HIRING - Person County Government is recruiting for a Communications Division Lieutenant. The purpose of this position is to perform intermediate technical work on an assigned shift overseeing and participating in dispatching law enforcement, fire, emergency medical service and non-emergency calls for service, including gathering medical information to provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) information to responders.

PERSON COUNTY ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Person County Government is pleased to announce that Tracy Clayton has been selected as the county’s next Chief Financial Officer, effective January 31. The Chief Financial Officer performs complex professional and administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the County's finances, investments, debt, accounting and financial reporting systems, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, federal and state laws and statutes, and County policies. Clayton joined the County’s Finance Department in 2016 and has served in numerous roles, including Accounting Technician II, Finance Technician, Finance Specialist, and Deputy Chief Financial Officer. She has served as Interim Chief Financial Officer since August 2024, when the former Chief Financial Officer retired. Clayton has more than 20 years of management experience across diverse work environments, including private sector roles, overseeing financial operations, team leadership, and process optimization. “Tracy Clayton has been a dedicated county employee since 2016 and capably served as the interim Chief Financial Officer for the past six months,” said County Manager Katherine Cathey. “She is knowledgeable and trustworthy. I appreciate her efforts to ensure our county government stays in strong financial shape so we can continue to provide a high level of services to the people of Person County.”

HIRING - Person County Government is recruiting for a part-time Lead Maintenance Worker for the Recreation, Arts and Parks Department. The purpose of this position is to perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work in maintaining County parks grounds and buildings.

The purpose of this position is to perform production tasks at the Person County Recycling Center by operating a fork lift, skid steer, working recycling sort line, and driving delivery/pick-up truck as needed.
