Having honored our military veterans as a nation yesterday, our Permasteelisa North America team has been reflecting on a project we are particularly proud to have played a part in – the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. The 182-bed hospital, which opened in 2018, marked a major advance in quality of care for veterans in the region. The state-of-the-art campus, which spans 31 acres, provides diagnostic and treatment facilities, care clinics, research laboratories, support facilities, and inpatient beds. In total, our team provided 36,300 sqm of ballistic curtain wall, with exterior sunshades, canopies and BIPV (building integrated photo voltaic) framing for the 12 buildings on the campus. Sustainability and self-sufficiency were prioritized throughout the design, with daylight maximized through the fa?ade to reduce energy costs. One Vanderbilt in New York City – which soars to a height of 427m – is a great example of the way advanced fa?ades are transforming the cities of the world. To create the fa?ade of this new landmark building designed by James von Klemperer, president of KPF, and developed by SL Green Realty Corp., our Permasteelisa North America team drew on the expertise of colleagues from across Permasteelisa Group – from Europe to Asia. In total, we designed, engineered and produced 8,743 curtain wall panels with over 1,000 different configurations, including corner panels that are all different from each other as the tower tapers from bottom to top. The very tall glass vision panels used on the office floors include a ventilated spandrel panel cladded by terracotta tiles that reflect the sun during the day and create amazing reflections. One Vanderbilt’s natural light and openness, combined with the highest @LEED, WELL and Wired certifications, create an exceptional working environment. Our Vice President Steve Abbring will be giving a presentation at the next Facades+ conference this Thursday, October 31, in Austin, Texas. The conference, an initiative of The Architect's Newspaper, will bring together the architecture, engineering and construction community to discuss all things fa?ades, from technical innovations and new materials, to designs that push the envelope. World-class architects and engineers will examine the fact-paced evolution of fa?ade technology in presentations and panels, alongside plenty of opportunities for networking and peer learning. Steve Abbring will be joined by William E. Butler, a partner at Pelli Clarke & Partners, for a presentation on the Block 185 skyscraper in Austin, which features an iconic fa?ade designed to capitalize on views. The next Zak World of Fa?ades conference – which focuses on fa?ade design and engineering globally – is set to take place in New York City on October 16 and we are delighted that our colleague Joshua Voice, Gartner Brand and Projects Executive, is a speaker. Josh will be taking part in a panel discussion on fa?ades in aviation, drawing on our team’s experience at New York’s La Guardia Airport. He will be joined at the conference by colleagues from Germany, Bernhard Rudolf (Head of System Design), Patrick Brenner (Head of Design) as well as colleagues in the US Davide Mangini (Permasteelisa Brand and Projects Executive), Kyle Faron (Business Development Manager), and Norbert Maier (Business Development Manager).
