Over 10,000 feet of Permalok? HDD pipe has been installed under the East River in two parallel lines, connecting a critical segment of New York's Champlain Hudson Power Express Project. During the first drive, crews from Michels Trenchless successfully installed 5,200 feet of 20-inch Permalok HDD steel casing pipe in just over two days—averaging an impressive 100 feet per hour. This rapid pace is due to our patent-pending interlocking direct-push joint design, which eliminates the need for a pipe string out or field welding, combined with the skilled precision of the Michels Trenchless crew. The second drive was completed even faster. Representatives from our team were on-site during both pushes to offer support and witness the extraordinary efficiency of this HDD operation. Rain or shine, our drive to enhance processes never wavers. Take this recent lean improvement at our Saginaw steel pressure pipe facility, which tackled a weather-related challenge head-on. High humidity was causing excess condensation on pipe exteriors at the outdoor hydrotesting station, creating a real headache for operators. Our innovative team devised a simple yet effective solution: we installed a water heater for use on rainy days. Paired with fans and occasional dry mopping, this setup effectively controls condensation, ensuring a consistent testing environment regardless of atmospheric conditions. This creative fix exemplifies how a little ingenuity can spark significant process improvements, boosting efficiency and maintaining the highest quality standards for our clients. #leanmanufacturing #processimprovement #innovation
