I attended All Things Open AI the past few days at the historical Carolina Theatre in Durham. It was an incredible event, so huge thank you to Mark Hinkle and Todd Lewis for putting together an amazing experience, as usual! Key takeaways for me: ?? The use of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to improve model responses and help avoid bias, hallucinations, and irrelevant responses. ??Web browsers may very well be obsolete in several years (excellent & thought-provoking session Rachel-Lee Nabors). ??Organizations have a lot more to consider with AI initiatives, from extra steps in the PLC/SDLC to longer timelines to realize ROI (great insight Ben Heller). ??Brandon Mathis and his entertaining photo journey down memory lane of computing and the internet. It reminded the audience of how fast AI is moving. AI is exciting, transformative, and a little scary. But one thing is for sure, get on board or get left behind! Thank you to all of the presenters and the All Things AI Community for the education this week. #AllThingsOpenAI #ATOAI

I had an amazing time attending the All Things Open AI conference at Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham! The conference was packed with fascinating sessions on GenAI, RAG, AI Agents, and how to integrate AI into real-world applications for meaningful impact. The conference offered a wealth of valuable sessions tailored for AI Users, Engineers, and Builders, providing an excellent platform to connect with AI technologists from the RTP area. ? Session Highlights: ?? Hacking AI – How to Survive the AI Uprising by Gant Laborde was an entertaining and insightful session on AI vulnerabilities. From Advanced Jailbreaking to image perturbation, Gant captivated the audience with real-world examples. My favorite takeaway was the Dolphin Attack, which uses audio frequencies to manipulate voice assistants. It was an also a pleasure meeting him after his talk and having the opportunity to discuss his insights further. ?? Prioritizing and Evaluating GenAI Use Cases by Ben Heller provided a deep dive into how organizations should approach evaluating and prioritizing AI projects. Ben emphasized a structured methodology, covering often overlooked but essential elements for the success of GenAI projects. ?? AI Governance: Mitigating Risks in the Enterprise by Melissa Nysewander was a fantastic session on the essential role of AI governance. As AI continues to expand across industries, Melissa discussed the importance of adopting AI policies that mitigate potential risks while driving business impact. ?? One of the highlights was also receiving a signed copy from John Willis of his upcoming book 'Rebels for a Reason'. I can’t wait to dive into this book and explore the insights it offers. ?? I had the opportunity to attend the Social Event after conference, where I connected with professionals working in the RTP area. It was inspiring to hear how they’re incorporating AI into their daily work, staying updated with the latest AI developments in their companies, and even pursuing personal AI projects! ?? I also had the opportunity to volunteer at the conference, assisting attendees with seating and ensuring sessions ran smoothly. Thank you to Jennifer Suber for the opportunity! ?? Big thanks to Mark Hinkle and Todd Lewis for putting together such a fantastic event. Can’t wait for the next edition! #AIlThingsOpen #AI #MachineLearning

You may have noticed lately, my digital presence on LinkedIn has dropped off a bit lately. That's because I've been spending so much time in the analog world. It all came to fruition this week All Things Open AI (soon to be just All Things AI). The conference I co-founded with Todd Lewis. I can't stop gushing about all the support for our growing community built around AI here in the Raleigh-Durham area. This week we had some amazing wins: ????1500 Unique Conference Registrants ??????750 Business Users Trained on Generative AI ???????? ????100% of training respondents would recommend to a friend ????Over 70+ 4.7/5 Star Reviews for our training ?????50 World Class Speakers And an uncountable number of new friends and allies in helping everyone no matter what your background or technical ability to navigate AI. So many people to thank I can't begin to cover them all. But here's just a few. New friends Adam Sullivan, from Labcorp, really showing what enterprise AI looks like. Jeffery Painter also told us about how AI was improving drug safety and so much more. Rachel-Lee Nabors from my home town of Harrisburg, PA via the United Kingdom, was amazing. And the loose inspiration for the Ben Stillers Zoolander, Gant Laborde, graced our presence with Infinite Red, Inc. (the inspiration for Blue Steel, truish-story??). Sriram Raghavan choosing our conference to make IBM 's latest open source announcement. (Sorry Jensen Huang we scooped NVIDIA GTC). Old friends showed up from all over the world Adrian Cole (from Singapore). Old colleagues Sheng Liang and Shannon Williams and the Acorn Labs team coming in from Silicon Valley. My old road warrior buddy Nathaniel McCallum and Confidential Computing OG at AMD , Aaron Fulkerson from OPAQUE Systems, and John Willis the man the myth the DeVops and soon to be AI legend supporting me as always. And I can't say enough about Sachin Solkhan, Marcia Olson, Jon Reifschneider, Ben Heller for their to help as we launched our first conference. Sorry, my keyboard's getting a little misty back here in the real world so I'll stop typing but take a look at the first few pics from this killer event.

All Things Open AI Is hosted at the historic Carolina Theater in Durham, NC. Sriram Raghavan boldly proclaims this is the closest he’ll get to Broadway before announcing interesting new open source tools from IBM. I love this theater and the All Things Open AI event is much more relaxing than GTC. ?? I hope my fellow OPAQUElings are enjoying the circus of GTC this week. Side note, you can find OPAQUE Systems in the Microsoft Azure pavilion at GTC this week. Thanks, Mark Russinovich for hosting us again. ???? Here’s a little about this historic theater. The Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC, has been a stage for legends since 1926. From its vaudeville days to becoming a cultural icon, this historic venue has welcomed some of the greatest performers of all time. ?? Marian Anderson (1927) – The legendary contralto performed here despite the segregation of the era. ?? Duke Ellington & Count Basie – Jazz royalty who brought swing to Durham. ?? Katharine Hepburn – Before her Hollywood fame, she graced this stage. ?? Ronald Reagan – Not just a future president, but a performer here in his acting days. ?? Etta James & B.B. King – Blues greats who left their mark on this historic venue. For nearly a century, the Carolina Theatre has been a beacon for the performing arts. Its walls have echoed with history, and its stage has seen the birth of countless memories.

The best thing about the All Things Open Gen AI conference is the people. For the last two days I immersed myself into all things Gen AI. I consider myself a rech newbie, really only engaging since the emergence of Gen AI so going into tech spaces can sometimes feel intimidating but the ALl Things Open community has got to be some of the most generous folks I’ve ever met. I’m building my knowledge and skillset and excited to see how it will all come together. I know being a leader in todays world means having a working knowledge of AI and I want to be at the forefront. I’m incredibly grateful to have connected with people like Danny Castro, Jerome J. Sanders, Paula Ramos, PhD and Ben Heller. I have to give Ben a special shoutout for two reasons. 1) He was the first person I met at the first tech event I ever attended. I was feeling very out of my element but he was so down to earth, and made me feel at ease as the tech newbie. 2) While all the presenters were great, Ben’s session was hands down my favorite. If you could see the amount of pictures being taken of his slides, you’d know why. Great content! Easy to digest. Super useful information like the prioritization framework and overall, Ben’s a cool guy. Go to anything this guys speaking at and thank me later. Todd Lewis and Mark Hinkle thanks for all your hard work and dedication. You’re building something really special in RTP and I’m lucky to be part of it.
