When ChatGPT first appeared, it embodied Douglas Adams's quote: “Any significantly advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” But that was just the beginning. From deepfake images of the Pope wearing Balenciaga to AI-generated songs rivaling pop stars, the potential of generative AI has only started to unfold. Now, we are seeing the benefits of the convergence: Multimodal AI. ?? What is Multimodal AI? It’s the next leap in AI, enabling systems to process and synthesize multiple data types—text, images, audio, and video—all within a single framework. This unified approach delivers insights that were previously locked away in data silos. In industries like healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, the impact is profound: Healthcare: Advanced diagnostics combining imaging, lab results, and patient history to personalize treatment. Manufacturing: Predictive maintenance systems preventing equipment failures before they happen. Retail: Omnichannel insights that blend online and in-store data for a seamless customer experience. But it’s not all smooth sailing. Adopting multimodal AI requires tackling data integration, ensuring privacy, and managing computational costs. Yet, the rewards for businesses ready to innovate are massive: improved decision-making, deeper automation, and better customer experiences. That's the topic of this week's deep dive article on the AIE. Let me know what you think.

Today, we honor the brave individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in 1919, proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson to mark the end of World War I. It has since evolved into a day to recognize all military veterans for their service and sacrifice. To those who have served and continue to serve—thank you. To those who made the ultimate sacrifice or have passed on, we honor their memory. This year, I had the privilege of spending time with Aaron Barnes. Aaron and his family are dear friends, and he is a distinguished U.S. Army veteran who will transition out of the military at the end of the year. For 14 years, he has excelled as a communications professional, leading global initiatives. He’s managed and evaluated large-scale media campaigns across print, TV, radio, online, and social platforms. Aaron has also conducted detailed programs to measure their effectiveness, ensuring mission success. Notably, he has managed multi-million dollar budgets, balancing fiscal responsibility with operational excellence. He achieved the rank of Major and served in Psychological Operations, specializing in Strategic Communications and Influence Operations. Much of his work in the Army remains classified, but his expertise is clear. He’s developed skills that I believe will be invaluable in the private sector. His abilities would make him a standout addition to any Marcom team, Chief of Staff role, or similar leadership positions. If you’re looking for a top-tier communications professional, I highly recommend Aaron. Feel free to reach out if you'd like an introduction. Truth be told, I’d hire Aaron myself in a heartbeat if I had the capacity. But I remain committed to my solopreneur mission—though he certainly tempts me to expand. And while Aaron’s an exceptional professional, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention his dog, Charlotte. She’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met, and as many of you know... I firmly believe that the best people are dog people. (That’s Charlotte in the attached picture—judge for yourself!)

IT certifications have long been the backbone of the tech workforce, offering structured, reliable paths to validate expertise. From the Novell CNE in the 90s to CompTIA’s A+ and Network+, they’ve evolved from vendor-specific silos to flexible, vendor-neutral benchmarks. But in AI? The story’s different. With the rise of AI, we’re seeing vendor-tied certifications and training from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. While valuable, these programs are limited to specific ecosystems, leaving gaps in cross-platform capabilities—particularly in multi-cloud or hybrid AI environments. The Solution? A practical, vendor-neutral AI certification that focuses on core competencies like data processing, ethical AI, and adaptable workflows, enabling professionals to thrive across AI ecosystems. I riffed on this a little bit this week's edition of The AIE. I am anxious to hear your thoughts.
