Update on California’s AB2229 from bill sponsor and menstrual equity activist, Sriya Srinivasan! In late September, California’s AB2229, also known as the Know Your Period Act, was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom This bill aims to include comprehensive menstrual health education in all California public schools. Thank you to Governor Newsom for signing this bill into law, Assemblymember Lori D Wilson for sponsoring and Assemblymember Mia Bonta, Assemblymember Laura Friedman, Assemblymember Diane Papan and Assemblymember Luz Rivas for co-sponsoring this bill in Assembly, and menstrual equity activists on the ground for your work to advance menstrual equity across the state!

This morning, we’ll wake up at PERIOD. and keep working for women’s health, for a world where 30% of girls aren’t shocked by their first period, a nation where healthcare and health education is sufficient to keep women from finding themselves in confusing, life threatening medical emergencies, where students can afford period products, where physicians are equipped and empowered to treat women’s health with all the tools and expertise they require. Mostly, we’ll keep training the next generation of leaders so that we can keep voting for women who will destigmatize women’s reproductive health. Starting college should be an exciting time. However, the absence of family, dorm essentials and move-in support can make the experience daunting and difficult. Many foster youth face unmet needs, limiting their ability to focus on their studies and career goals. This is where RTS comes in! Thanks to the incredible support of our dedicated volunteers and generous partners at John Paul Mitchell Systems, Canyon Partners, LLC, 3 Arts Entertainment, Hot Topic, PERIOD., Supergoop!, Dr. Bronner's, the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and Banchik Family Foundation, our community recently transformed this experience for 320 students in need! On behalf of the entire Ready to Succeed team, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for making Project Dorm Room?a?reality. We did it! Last week, our amazing Service and Operations Manager, Kate Barker Swindell, visited the Aerie by AEO, Inc. headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA to lead a large-scale packing party in celebration of Period Action Day! Together, they assembled 1,000 period packs that are headed to the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank. These packs will provide essential support to menstruators in need who cannot easily afford or access products for their monthly cycle. Thank you Aerie for such a fantastic event. Let’s continue to work hard to eradicate period poverty and stigma in our lifetime!
