Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting the Period Positive Workplace initiative at a parallel event to the United Nations #CSW69. Together with colleagues from Days for Girls International, UNICEF, Period Law, and the Global Menstrual Collective, we proposed a comprehensive approach to designing supportive menstrual health environments and policy interventions for schools, workplaces, and community spaces. We were fortunate to have opening remarks from Marcy Karin of UDC Law and Peter Derrek Hof, Ambassador of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality for the Netherlands, as well as three student activists sharing their perspectives. #menstrualhealth #menstruationmatters

Since 2020 our GIZ Gender Competitions are good indicators of the positive development around menstrual health and hygiene #MHH within our programmes and activities – with MenstruAction having an instrumental part in it: From no mention of MHH at all, to one project in Nepal being under the TOP 15 of the GE1 category in the 2020 competition, to the 1st Gender prize for Fit for School’s MHH activities in the GE1 category and an honorable mention of #NepalsMenstrualMovement in the 2022 edition, to the 2nd prize for Periods@Work in the Gender Mainstreaming category and three honorable mentions at the 2024 Gender Award. ? The objective of the staff initiative is to integrate menstrual health and hygiene into our programming and our workplace practices through awareness campaigns and collaboration - especially with the GIZ Gender Focal Persons in our country offices. Read the new publication to get inspired and join the movement. You can find quite some opportunities in the new publication: From organizing an IMPURE film screening like GIZ Mauritanie GIZ Malawi GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS to getting certified as a Period Positive Workplace like GIZ Rwanda… ? #WeAreCommitted on the road to this year’s Intl Menstrual Hygiene Day #MHDay2025 on May 28.? As we strive for inclusivity and equity in our workplaces, embracing menstrual health is crucial. Periods are a natural part of life for many of us, yet stigma and discomfort often surround this topic in professional settings. It's time to change that narrative. ?? Imagine a workplace where: -Period products are readily accessible. -Policies support menstrual leave and flexible working hours. -Conversations around menstrual health are open and normalized. -Supportive environments empower all employees to manage their periods with dignity. We believe that by embracing menstrual health, we enhance employee well-being, productivity, and inclusivity. Let's break the silence and create workplaces where everyone feels respected and supported, regardless of their menstrual cycle. Did you know? A recent survey revealed that 73% of employees working at certified Period Positive Workplaces reported improved experiences managing menstruation at work. You can learn more about atypical menstrual symptoms and their potential causes here: https://lnkd.in/gSQahPGU. Employers can make a difference by fostering open dialogue and implementing thoughtful changes, like flexible work options, rest areas, and supportive dress codes. These steps not only improve workplace culture but empower employees to thrive.
