This week, I'm celebrating a milestone birthday. I thought I'd share my lessons and vision for the next 50 in this poem ?? To the Past and the Next 50 to Remember To the past, I lift a grateful gaze,?? For every twist, turn, and winding maze.?? The comfort zones where I once stood still,?? Taught me to reach beyond, to climb each hill.?? For even when life felt secure, complete,?? New connections made it more bittersweet.? Don’t believe every thought that comes to mind,?? Or every feeling that leaves you entwined.?? They shift like clouds in the morning sky,?? You can choose which stories live, which die.?? Your past may linger, but it’s not your chain—?? Each sunrise offers a fresh refrain.? Accomplishments, trophies, they shine but fade,?? They don’t define the life you’ve made.?? For any day, in the dawn’s first hue,?? You get to decide who you’ll grow into.?? Let go of the burden of others' view,?? They’re busy with worries that aren’t about you.? Control is a mirage, slipping through hands,?? Feelings, like tides, reshape the sands.?? So dance with your critic, hold your inner child,?? Find peace in the quiet, let mornings run wild.?? Make time for yourself when the world is still,?? A sacred breath before life fills.? Ask more questions than you reply,?? Trust there’s meaning in each goodbye.?? Multiply your greatness by tenfold or more,?? There’s strength inside that you’ve yet to explore.?? Time’s not lacking, just how we choose,?? To spend it on things that we refuse.? Activate your values, let them steer,?? Even when life feels dull, even unclear.?? For in every task, a purpose hides,?? And no struggle is worse than the undecided mind.?? To the past and the future to where I'm called,?? Here’s to remembering and embracing it all.? Thanks to all my family, friends, clients, peers, colleagues, past, current, and future with whom I get to share this incredible experience called life. This photo was taken last week on a trip to Portugal with some of my best and longtime girlfriends to celebrate our birthdays, 30 years of friendship, and all that we have learned and experienced with gratitude together.
