Healing Arts Atlanta launched last Friday at the Carter Center and the Emory Collins School of Public Health. Attended by local arts & health practitioners, cultural leaders, and activists the event sparked discussion around treating racism as a public health issue, and how the arts can play a vital role in supporting health and social equity. Friday’s event precedes a major convening at Healing Arts Atlanta of city and community leaders on October 7 which will continue meaningful conversations and collaborations which have already begun about mainstreaming the arts in medicine and public health in ways that address our most pressing social concerns. Performance Hypothesis is honored to co-direct Healing Arts ATL with our incredible collaborators Jameel Arts & Health Lab, The Carter Center, Thriving Together ATL, Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and many more amazing organizations, artists, speakers, and leaders.
On the 10th of April 2024, we launch Healing Arts Atlanta in partnership with Performance Hypothesis, Thriving Together Atlanta, and The Carter Center together with BLKHLTH, the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, and The Woodruff Arts Center. Focused on “Championing the Role of the Arts in Addressing Racism as a Public Health Crisis,” this event precedes a major convening of city and community leaders in October which will engage researchers, artists, and policy advocates in exploring the science and practice of how the arts can reduce mortality, strengthen coping, and facilitate healing from the wounds of racial trauma and stress. Matthew McCurdy, Co-Founder & Executive Director of BLKHLTH, remarked “At BLKHLTH, we recognize the power of art to explain injustice while helping us reimagine and build a more just world.” Nisha Sajnani, PhD RDT-BCT Christopher Bailey; Renée Fleming; M.
