I contend this problem as shown in Gallup's shocking low engagement survey results and getting worse is attributed to three things: 1) lack of understanding of real job needs, 2) hiring managers who assess candidates on presentation and personality rather than performance, and 3) candidates who focus too much on the Day 1 compensation package and not enough on the growth opportunity which is the driver of future compensation.
