  • This past Saturday, we hosted a fantastic panel discussion on "Navigating the Digital Landscape" at the Drescher Campus in Malibu. Our panelist Joi Carr, Julius Toledo, Meghan Judge and Rafael Barrero, MBA, as well as our amazing moderator Ashley Lisseth Hernandez shared valuable insights on staying authentic in your career, advocating for yourself, and the importance of being open to career transitions, especially when leadership styles don't align with your values. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you again to our wonderful panelist who joined us, who this event wouldn’t be possible without and of course, contributed their perspectives on the entertainment and media industries. Your diverse career backgrounds continue to inspire and guide us. A special thank you also goes out to everyone who attended, whether you’re already in the field or interested in pursuing a career in entertainment and media. We truly appreciate your participation, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!

  • We’re thrilled to spotlight another one of our recent MBA graduates, Penelope C. Gallardo, MBA, who served as VP of Professional Development for GWBA and Co-VP for the Finance Club. While at GWBA, Penelope worked behind the scenes on student events and also launched WISE (Women in Successful Enterprises), our first alumni mentorship program. Penelope earned her MBA at Pepperdine with a concentration in finance in August and became the first Pepperdine MBA graduate to join Vanguard's MBA Rotational Program, where she is currently pursuing the General Management Pathway. Grateful for her time at Pepperdine, she focused on?growing the community and making an impact. At Vanguard, she is committed to taking a stand for all investors, treating them fairly, and giving them the best chance for investment success. Her best advice? Look for new opportunities and genuinely meet people. We wish Penelope all the best in her future endeavors. Thank you for everything you have done for GWBA.

  • To yet another successful GWBA + Male Allies Negotiation Workshop event this past Thursday. Professor David Dowling, who is a distinguished faculty member at Pepperdine Caruso Law School and an experienced mediator, owning Dowling Mediation Services, who has dedicated over 20 years to providing mediation and dispute resolution services for individuals, organizations, and communities. At Pepperdine, he instructs courses in Dispute Resolution, which may be of interest to you, so we urge you to take a look when he is teaching next and consider taking his course. Additionally, he teaches annually at the Law Society of Ireland, focusing on dispute resolution skills training. How cool! This past Thursday, Professor Dowling went over some key gems on how we can bridge the gap with negotiations when it comes to pay and what strategies we can use. Some that stood out to members were “90% of men go for jobs they aren’t fully qualified for, while only 60% of women do”. We have seen this time and time again so he mentioned just going for the position as long as you feel you are qualified for it and some strategies. Another key point is that women should advocate for others to negotiate for themselves first, establishing a norm around negotiation. Research shows that women who negotiate their salaries can earn up to 20% more over their careers. Additionally, workplaces that promote negotiation training and transparent pay practices see improved equity and retention rates. We sincerely thank Professor Dowling for generously sharing these hidden gems with us once more. We also appreciate everyone for joining us and look forward to hosting another event to provide even more valuable resources for your future.

  • We would like to express our gratitude to Claudia Hanten, who served as Vice President of Marketing at GWBA. Her contributions to social media and event planning truly showcased her expertise. We can’t wait to see all that she will achieve after graduation! As a part of the online MBA program at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, Claudia completed a concentration in Finance and embarked on multiple GBI trips. In addition to serving the GWBA community, Claudia also took pride in her position on the GSAB (Graziadio Student Advisory Board). We want to thank Claudia again for everything she did for GWBA and wish her the best in her career journey!
