????The 2024 Global Hunger Index (#GHI) reveals little progress in reducing hunger since 2016 and dim prospects for achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. Multiple factors, including conflict, climate change, economic downturns and structural inequalities, drive this lack of progress. ??At PIN, we see that many of the countries we work in have moderate to alarming hunger levels, reflecting persistently high child undernutrition. In our country programmes, we are working hard to realise 2024's GHI theme, How #GenderJustice can advance #ClimateResilience and #ZeroHunger. ??For example, with a score of 41.2, placing it 126th out of 127 countries scored for the 2024 index, #Yemen has a hunger level that is considered ALARMING. ??Our colleagues in Yemen are working hard to bring access to safe drinking water to communities, improving the health of women and children suffering from acute malnutrition. ??Learn more: https://buff.ly/3Ca92X1 The GHI is an annual peer-reviewed look at ?? hunger and food and nutrition insecurity prepared by our Alliance2015 partners Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe (WHH). ??Find out more: https://buff.ly/47OYibc

??Since 1994, we have been conferring the Homo Homini Award to individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of human rights and democracy and nonviolent solutions to political conflicts. ??For the first time, the award will go to two laureates: Philip Obaji of Nigeria and Victoria Roschyna of Ukraine. Both Philip and Victoria have paid a high price for their work. Wagner paramilitaries tortured Phillip, and Victoria was killed while covering life in Russian-occupied Ukraine. 2024 was an incredibly difficult year for #Ukraine. Widespread destruction, power outages, and evacuations due to intensified shelling caused humanitarian needs to grow even greater. Naturally, our team at People in Need Ukraine had much work to do. We repaired homes and collective centres for internally displaced people, restored water supply systems in affected communities, helped children return to school and make up for lost learning, and provided grants to help people start businesses and create jobs. We sincerely thank our partners for their trust and support! Our work would have been impossible without you. With faith in a just peace, we continue changing lives for the better in 2025. #StandWithUkraine https://buff.ly/42Pby0b

?? HRDs can be professionally or voluntarily engaged in the field of Human Rights. Their work is vitally important to the proper functioning of democratic societies. If our human rights are restricted or denied, then people are left open to abuse by those in power. At People in Need, we present the Homo Homini Award to individuals who have greatly contributed to the promotion of human rights and democracy.
