Embracing Coolabilities: Shaping a People-Centered Future in Uncertain Times As a Senior Fellow at i4j Innovation for Jobs by IIIJ Foundation hosted by People-Centered Internet, I’m excited to reflect on the critical challenges of our time and our community’s essential role in shaping a brighter, people-centered future. These reflections also align with the upcoming i4j book on Coolabilities, expected in 2025, which builds on the legacy of earlier iconic books 'Disrupting Unemployment' and 'The People-Centered Economy'. We face a world defined by complex dynamics: global tensions, economic uncertainty, the rapid evolution of AI, escalating cybersecurity threats, and an increasing focus on “downside protection” over growth and well-being. Yet, amidst this anxiety, i4j’s core philosophy remains steadfast: innovation and technology must elevate people and empower their unique strengths. Key Themes Across i4j’s Work: ? People-Centric Innovation: Technology should serve human well-being, not just profits. ? Individual Empowerment: Systems must align with and amplify people’s unique talents. ? Redefining Success: Metrics of progress should focus on inclusiveness and well-being over mere economic growth. ? Collaboration: Public-private partnerships and cross-sector innovation are essential to meaningful change. ? The Future of Work: Preparing for a world where traditional roles give way to new, innovation-driven opportunities. The concept of Coolabilities—recognizing and harnessing the unique strengths individuals bring to challenges—represents a crucial step forward in redefining how we view talent and potential. The forthcoming book will provide actionable frameworks for thriving in an era of rapid technological transformation. I4j’s partnership with PCI has been an incredible source of strength and inspiration. My deepest gratitude goes to Mei Lin Fung and Jascha Stein for your unwavering support and vision, building on the trailblazing work of David Nordfors, Ph.D. and vint cerf. Together, we are driving a movement where people—not just systems—are at the heart of innovation. Here’s to a future where humanity thrives, innovation uplifts, and every individual’s unique abilities are celebrated!

The Economists' top five "Most Innovative" countries this year reveal an interesting pattern: Switzerland Sweden United States Singapore United Kingdom Three of the top five start with an "S"—could it be that "S"-named countries with Small populations have a?Secret edge? ?? And, not to overlook, English-speaking countries keep a strong foothold on the list too! But beyond letters and languages, early innovation leaders build lasting momentum. They have the $'s to reinvest in social institutions, creating cycles of growth that make them even tougher to catch up with. This is exactly what 2024 #Nobel #Economics Laureates Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson from MIT (my alma mater where I studied under 2 Nobel winners Modigliani, Merton and also Fisher Black), and David Yang from the University of Chicago highlight: early investments in Social Institutions can be THE differentiators of prosperity for countries, fueling infrastructure and innovation alike. ?? The takeaway? Innovation breeds more innovation, and those at the forefront can invest in Digital Public Infrastructure #DPI like the US $70 million in 2017 invested in AISingapore.org , setting the pace for everyone else.... could this be the S countries' Secret Edge? investing in capacity building of their people! https://lnkd.in/gvb-7h36 Antonio Vieira Santos Jascha Stein Andreas Weigend Dr. Ayesha Khanna Anne Firth Murray Kay Firth-Butterfield ??Kimberly Wiefling Walid Mathlouthi Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua Ravi Shankar Chaturvedi Shanker Damodaran Vijay Chandrasekhar Vijay Oddiraju Kartik Kulkarni Kartik Gada Pamela Gupta Marjory Blumenthal Carolina A. Great to hear Christine Lagarde cover a range of topics from the Mario Draghi recommendations for the EU, Digitalization and its implications - BOTH OF WHICH she says deserve urgent action, and where she stated the European Central Bank has a well equipped toolbox to support. She appears to be very supportive of further increases in global trade and spoke about the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiatives underway "we owe it to future generations to build the alternative of digital currency" to have Central Bank's keep people's trust in the system "in Euro we trust" even as payments go digital, while it will come with less anonymity than cash, to do it with as much privacy as possible. The digital Euro is in the exploratory 2 year process which will complete at the end of 2025 and legislation will be introduced then to the EU parliament - the goal is simplifying and reducing friction, increasing speed of people to people, point of sale payments, provide for off-hours payments in a cheap fast, transparent way. Europe just announced TIPs - Target Instant Payment System to link to other instant payment systems around the world - and this will introduce good global competition for price and service. mentioned https://lnkd.in/geSG4J-b

The Summit of the Future is concluding at the UN General Assembly this week - what does this mean for you? The #UN, the #IMF and the World Bank were created after WWII to prevent and avoid future conflicts that lead to World War III - new tools and a globally connected world that the founders could not have anticipated- are creating new conflicts and divisions What is our responsibility at this time?

UN Secretary-General: ‘We cannot create a future fit for our grandchildren with a system built by our grandparents’ Reflecting on António Guterres’ assertion on the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology years long process culminating this week in the Global Digital Compact (https://lnkd.in/gFRikgBS) I recognize the immense responsibility we hold as stewards of our digital future. The choices we make today shape not only our present but also the opportunities for future generations. Will we be the weak link in the chain of human evolution ? The Global Digital Compact offers a chance to redefine innovation, focusing on fostering creativity and opportunities for all, irrespective of location or socio-economic status. It is about enabling everyone to drive innovation, fostering collaboration, and creating solutions tailored to diverse realities. Prioritizing inclusive internet access and robust data governance frameworks is crucial. By empowering individuals to innovate in ways that resonate with their cultural contexts, we can unleash creativity that transcends borders. Let's commit to a future of opportunity and innovation for all, ensuring a vibrant, inclusive digital future that benefits everyone, everywhere. Together, we can empower generations to come.
