Meet Jessica! Before experiencing homelessness, Jessica worked as a nanny for four children, a job she loved dearly. In addition to her nanny children, Jessica became a mother at a young age and raised four children of her own. As a mother, Jessica faced many challenges, including spending time incarcerated. While experiencing homelessness, Jessica experienced many traumas, including being robbed. Despite these hardships, she persevered and eventually connected with PATH which changed her life. Through PATH, she was accepted to HACLA Residential Property Support Services (RPSS) Program. Having a stable home allowed Jessica to reconnect with her family; her children and granddaughter can now visit her, and she enjoys cooking meals with them. Live in LA? That's why PATH joined The City of San Diego in supporting Senator Catherine Blakespear's SB 1361, which prevents costly, unnecessary delays to providing services and opening new interim housing sites. Meet Jordan, and her kitties, Quincy Mae and Loki! ?? Jordan is from Long Beach where she worked as a sales associate and a coffee shop manager. While working, she decided to pursue her degree in graphic design. Due to the stress of managing her workload and school, Jordan began to use substances, which led her to lose her jobs. She began to experience homelessness, living on the streets in downtown Los Angeles. One day, an outreach worker knocked on her tent and asked if Jordan and her kitties would like to be connected to Mayor Karen Bass' Inside Safe Initiative. She said yes! After a few weeks of staying in interim housing, she was able to move into her apartment through Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's Master Lease program, with onsite supportive services offered by PATH. Recently, Jordan celebrated one year of sobriety! She is now in her last semester of college and looks forward to graduating and starting her career as a graphic designer. Our residents in Los Angeles were treated to a back-to-school event like no other, courtesy of the Do Good Bus with volunteers from the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM)! ?? Volunteers assembled backpacks filled with school supplies, organized a clothing closet, and set-up a snack station for everyone in attendance. Our volunteers assembled and distributed 500 backpacks to five of our sites in Los Angeles! This is what community looks like! ??
