She smiled and said to me.. “I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters: I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me… I stopped fighting for attention… I stopped fighting to meet the public’s expectation of me… I stopped fighting for my rights with silly people… I stopped fighting for validation from those people who didn’t see my worth and my value… I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight… And I started fighting for my vision, my dreams, my aspirations, my goals, my ideas and my destiny. ???????????? One question I get asked a lot during my keynotes is: "How do I become more emotionally mature as a leader?" So much of this comes back to self-awareness and self-management in how we take care of ourselves. Building in time during your day for deep, strategic thinking and introspection allows you to process your thoughts, recognize and understand your emotions. Vulnerability enables you to be receptive to feedback and helpful guidance from others, which is so often needed for growth. But, above all, remember to take care of yourself and never beat yourself up when you make a mistake or struggle with an emotion. Remember, each challenge or adversity is really an opportunity in disguise. When you feel yourself getting anxious, angry or sad, take some time to reflect, renew and recharge. Be aware of what makes you upset or what brings you into an overly emotional state. Always know your values and be patient toward yourself and others. Emotionally maturity is a balancing act and something every professional can work on each day to get better and grow. You've got this!
