The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum came to Chartiers Township, Washington County in February 1954 with three trolleys and a dream that was born in 1941. Today, that dream is a reality. PTM now boasts a collection of nearly 50 cars, over 600 members worldwide, 150 active volunteers, and over 30,000 visitors each year. Pennsylvania Trolley Museum's Executive Director & CEO, Scott R. Becker, has announced his retirement after nearly 32 years of leadership. Scott was hired on August 25, 1993 as the Museum's first Executive Director (and first employee) and oversaw its extensive expansion with the construction of a new Welcome & Education Center, exhibit and artifact preservation buildings, reconstruction of existing buildings, restoration of historic streetcars, and nearly doubling the length of the Museum’s trackage. Under Scott’s tenure, PTM has experienced dramatic growth in volunteerism and visitors over the past 32 years, attracting over 48,000 visitors in 2024, the most in its history. Over 200 volunteers and a paid staff of 14 now ensure that Museum visitors have an enjoyable and educational experience. PTM is grateful for Scott's exemplary service and will honor him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at our annual Streetcar Soiree on May 16. The recent winter weather hasn't stopped the trolley museum. Unlike many heritage rail operations, we operate year round, regardless of the weather.
