Dr. Chandrika Behura, who recently received a $400,000 grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels for her work in pediatric cancer research, is investigating what drives resistance to cancer treatments in children. A new clinical trial aims to develop targeted therapies that could benefit the youngest patients at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, giving them better treatment options. Today, Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center launched a new nursing simulation lab, made possible by a $250,000 donation from the Edward R. Norford Foundation. The lab features lifelike electronic mannequins that simulate various clinical scenarios, including all stages of labor and delivery. This lab will enhance hands-on training, clinical skills, critical thinking and rapid response protocols to improve patient care and safety. "This is a testament to our commitment to delivering the highest quality care," said Leslyn Williamson, chief operating officer for Hampden and Holy Spirit medical centers.

Penn State Health and Rite Aid Healthy Futures celebrated the release of "Together We Grow: A Story of Food, Support and Community," a new children’s book created in collaboration with author Floyd Stokes and illustrator Sheena Hisiro, with a bilingual book reading last night. ?? The book emphasizes the importance of food access resources like pantries and gardens, aiming to reduce stigma and inspire communities to enhance their health through gardening. Since opening its doors in October 2021, Hampden Medical Center has been a cornerstone of care for Cumberland and Perry counties and the surrounding area, bringing easier access to the high-quality primary and specialty care services of Penn State Health. In December of 2017, Penn State Health and Highmark Inc. announced a partnership that would invest $1 billion in the health and well-being of central Pennsylvanians. This collaboration included a shared promise: to create a world-class, network of health care across the southcentral PA region. Hampden Medical Center is part of Penn State Health and Highmark Health’s long-term goal of making sure that everyone in the communities the health system serves has access to virtual care in 0 minutes and is within 10 minutes of a Penn State Health primary care provider, 20 minutes of its specialty care services and 30 minutes of a Penn State Health acute care hospital.
