On Saturday, Penn State Harrisburg hosted a regional competition site for the International Collegiate Programming Contest. We welcomed more than 50 students from seven colleges and universities in the region. Students worked to solve a set of algorithmic challenges in the 5 hour contest. Great work everyone! A big thank you to all of the student, staff, and faculty volunteers who helped make the event possible, including Kevin Myer, the site Sys Admin, Toni Chainey, the site Volunteer Coordinator, faculty members Truong Tran and Md Faisal Kabir, and numerous students. #PSHbg #PennStateHarrisburg

Congratulations to the team of Tyler Lindsay, Japheth Beiler, and Gabriel Marx, who won first place award for Computer Science projects at the Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering, and Technology 2024 Capstone Conference. The team was advised by Dr. Sayed Mohsin Reza and Dr. Truong Tran. Their project consisted of a remotely-controlled robot, like the type suitable for transporting supplies and providing assistance in potentially dangerous areas. The goal was to create a more flexible version of this robot by increasing its ease of use. Specifically, the team has designed a voice-controlled robot that is able to follow general movement instructions, including commands to navigate to specified targets. Information from the robot, including a video feed, is streamed to a central website. The intention is to create a simple software framework that can be extended to other projects for more specific and complex situations.
