Check out Zachary Herrmann's Climate Education project featured in Penn Today! In collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and over 70 educators worldwide, this project empowers students to lead solutions to pressing climate challenges.

Last January, 15 Penn students traveled to rural Uganda as part of the Global Jewish Communities Penn Global Seminar, engaging in cultural exchange and filming oral histories for the Shoah Foundation archive. ? Penn Global Seminars are unique courses that combine rigorous semester-long academic study with a short-term travel component, allowing students to apply their learning in real-world, global contexts.? ? Penn Global extends its gratitude to Peter Decherney and Sara Byala for their outstanding leadership and dedication to teaching, staff leader Gabby Szczepanek for her exceptional support, and Rabbi Joshua Klein for his invaluable guidance.

Last week, Penn Global announced the Penn Global Middle East Distinguished Visiting Scholar Initiative.? ? This initiative will bring regional scholars of the Middle East to the University of Pennsylvania to share their expertise with the Penn community, deepening the dialogue and the community's understanding of the complex dynamics shaping the region. ? The initiative will formally launch in fall 2025 with the arrival of Dahlia Scheindlin, a public opinion expert and international political and strategic consultant. Following, Shay Hazkani, associate professor of history and Jewish studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, will join in spring 2026, and Amal Jamal, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and head of the Walter Lebach Institute for the Study of Jewish-Arab Coexistence at Tel Aviv University, will join in fall 2026. ? On October 22, @UofPenn hosted the 2024 Silfen Forum with the theme of Waging Peace: Dialogue and Diplomacy in the Middle East. Penn Global's @Zeke Emanuel, Penn's vice provost for global initiatives, provided opening remarks while?introducing the event’s speakers. ? The speakers included former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Itamar Rabinovich, and former Palestinian Authority Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad. Michele Kelemen, an alumna of the College of Arts & Sciences and NPR diplomatic correspondent, served as a moderator during their conversation about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. ?
