Tom brings a wealth of experience from his time as Director of the Waterford Wedgwood Group in Asia, as well as his coaching roles at clubs in Switzerland and Great Britain. He developed athletes who competed for the GB junior, U23, and senior national teams. Tom began his rowing career at Penn AC at the age of 14. He attended St. Joseph's Prep when the program called Penn AC home, and continued his rowing career at Rutgers University. “Tom brings an abundance of knowledge to Penn AC that will elevate the club and will propel the high-performance squad through the next quadrennium. Penn AC has played a pivotal role in shaping my life since I began my rowing journey here as a teenager. To now have the opportunity to give back to the club that has given me so much is both humbling and inspiring. “As a coach, my greatest privilege is helping athletes unlock their potential–whether by winning medals on the world stage or achieving success in their personal and professional lives. Penn AC’s storied legacy of excellence in domestic and international rowing is unmatched, and I am committed to building on that tradition. “I look forward to working with the athletes and the members to make Penn AC a premier high performance center, shaping the next chapter of its remarkable history.” We are thrilled to welcome Tom back to the club and look forward to him adding to the legacy of high-performance rowing at Penn AC. • Current Penn AC HPG athlete Cedar Cunningham was selected for this amazing opportunity - a training trip and yoga retreat with Marina Traub. In coordination with the National Rowing Foundation (NRF), the Radical Re-Entry Project is centered on one simple concept: optimize the person, and peak performance will follow.

Training at the elite level takes a toll on both mind and body. Many athletes feel broken both mentally and physically by the time they are done. These athletes need your help. More to the point, Marina Traub and I need your help so that we, in turn, can support the athletes. We are sending six competitors from the USRowing Olympic and Paralympic training system on a yoga retreat to support their mental health, allow their bodies to heal, and demonstrate how a yoga practice can complement and amplify traditional training. I found Marina when she began offering free yoga classes to national team rowers in the pandemic. She has helped me SO MUCH in the last four years, not just with my flexibility and strength, but also my emotional?resilience and fortitude. My dream is that one day ALL our United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee athletes will receive this kind of support free of charge. If you can donate, know that every single penny will go to creating a healthier life for someone who represents our nation to the world.?The out-of-pocket cost for one athlete is $2,500, and our goal is to send six athletes, so we're looking to raise $15,000.?To donate, go to?the website?(link below) and scroll down to the "SPONSOR AN ATHLETE" button. If you can signal boost?by sharing this post, please do it and tell you people why you care while you're at it. https://lnkd.in/ew8yZRje

Solveig Imsdahl and Elaine Tierney, Team USA Rowers share how they communicate on the water, distilling a significant amount of information into one word. One of the challenges of conveying an investment process to a prospective investor is the ability to convey the complexity of your strategy into a few key words or sentences. I learned and was reminded of a number of important lessons when working with someone effectively either in the boat or the boardroom. ? Practice ? Communication ? Time ? Trust Check out the full episode at the link below to learn more. https://lnkd.in/ggMtgfgu Please consider donating to Solveig and Elaine’s journey to the Rowing World Championships in Serbia next month. https://lnkd.in/gnkXXTkJ #teamwork #supportourathletes

  • Many of you at Penn AC have probably run into Paul Coomes, Program Director for Penn AC Gold over the past several years. Paul has been with Penn AC since 2017, and has been instrumental in building the Junior Gold program to where it is now in 2024, nationally recognized and most recently winning the Colgan Cup at USRowing Summer Nationals for overall team points. Before Paul started with us at Penn AC, he founded the scholastic program at Conestoga Crew Club after moving to Philadelphia in 1998. This October, the Men's and Women's Youth 4x events at THOMAS EAKINS HEAD OF THE SCHUYLKILL REGATTA will be renamed in honor of Paul, his coaching and leadership of junior athletes on Boathouse Row, and his contributions to rowing in Philadelphia. Learn more! You can join us in Philadelphia for the naming of the Paul Coomes Cup, or find out more details about the weekend through Conestoga here: https://lnkd.in/gPGDugZ7

Penn AC Gold is our summer high performance program for juniors. Athletes are selected from across the country (and world!) to train on Boathouse Row, and compete at Independence Day and USRowing Summer Nationals. We are so proud of how they represent Penn AC, and look forward to seeing many of them back at the boathouse in future years. Last year, our junior women’s team had an incredible statistic we want to share: 100% of the athletes graduating in 2024 committed to rowing at an NCAA program. Highlighted here are six seniors who raced with us in OKC, and are headed to their college programs this fall. Can’t wait to see how you represent Penn AC beyond our boathouse!
