Helping Children. Rebuilding Families.
关于我们
Pendleton Place offers programs that protect, equip and heal children, youth, and families affected by foster care, homelessness, poverty, and trauma. We strengthen children while rebuilding families because it's our goal for each child to have a stable home environment and a bright future. In Fiscal Year 2023, Pendleton Place served 223 families and 254 individual clients. We offered 12,342 meals and 5,725 nights of care to youth in our foster care group home and emergency homeless shelter specifically for youth aged 12-21. Our teenagers residing in our group foster care home, Smith House, received 239 hours of group therapy, along with 254 hours of academic and tutoring instruction, 153 hours of driver instruction, 56 hours of career readiness and 46 hours of financial literacy. Our youth homelessness services also included drop-in hours for basic needs, with over 2,300 services provided (showers, laundry, meals). We also invested more than $110,000 in supported housing, with 100% of our youth exiting homelessness maintaining permanent housing. With nearly 50 years of service in the Greenville community, Pendleton Place is well equipped to support and serve vulnerable children and families through each of our programs: The Assessment Center/Family Resource Center provides comprehensive family strengthening services like kinship caregiver support and navigation, family mediation, developmental screenings for children aged 0-5, and evidence-based caregiving classes for families of children aged 6-18. Smith House offers a home for up to 10 teenagers in foster care, focused on independent living skills. Our Smith House Alumni Cottage helps three former Smith House residents transition to adulthood in a structured environment. Our youth homelessness services include drop-in hours for basic needs, an emergency youth homeless shelter, a transitional living program, and HUD housing programs. Love (and Loki??in heart PJs) was in the air at our Shelter Services Valentine’s Day-themed community night! Our honorary Valentine, program manager Erin's dog Loki, stole the show in festive heart jammies, while Transitional Living Program & Emergency Youth Shelter residents had a blast playing "Get to Know You" Bingo, crafting friendship bracelets & heartfelt cards, and taking turns playing the guitar and singing acoustic Post Malone songs.???? Building connections, sharing laughs, and making memories are important components of our programs, and we're thankful for our amazing staff who make those things possible! ?? #CommunityLove #ValentinesVibes #PendletonPlace #ShelterServices #LokiTheLoveBug

It's the last day of Black History Month! Today, we are celebrating another hero of child welfare today who helped move our country forward to improve the lives of children in the social welfare system. Lester Blackwell Granger was a social worker and civil rights and labor rights activist best known for leading the National Urban League (NUL) from 1941 to 1961. Granger earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1918 after serving in the US Army as artillery lieutenant during World War I. He was an integral pioneer in social work and in 1952 he became the first president of the National Conference of Social Welfare. He founded the Los Angeles chapter of the organization and advocating for better economic opportunities for students at historically Black colleges and universities. Towards the end of his career, Lester turned to teaching, passing his knowledge of social work and justice movements onto the next generation of leaders.?

Did you know that February is National Parent Leadership Month!? Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in shaping strong, resilient communities. When parents have a voice in decision-making and advocacy, families receive better support, and children have greater opportunities to thrive. Lived experience brings valuable insight into creating programs and policies that truly meet the needs of families. By recognizing and elevating parent leaders, we can foster meaningful change that strengthens child and family well-being. Happy third Friday of Black History Month! We are celebrating another hero of child welfare today who helped move our country forward to improve the lives of children in the social welfare system. Fredericka Douglass Sprague Perry, the granddaughter of renowned abolitionist Frederick Douglass, was born in upstate New York in 1872. A dedicated philanthropist and activist, she established the Colored Big Sister Home for Girls in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1934. Alongside her husband, John E. Perry, she advocated for improved healthcare for African-American children. Through her efforts to highlight the needs of Black foster children, Fredericka played a pivotal role in advancing state-sponsored child welfare programs that served all children.
