We're excited to announce our newest Pendle Hill Pamphlet #492 by Matt Rose on "Awakening the Witness: Convincement and Belonging in Quaker Community." In many Quaker communities, there are ongoing conversations about what it means to belong. These are often rooted in anxieties about the future of Friends as numbers fall, younger Friends move around, and new forms of Quaker community appear online. In this pamphlet Matt Rosen reminds us that an experience of God’s guiding and transforming power, which draws us together – what early Quakers called convincement – is as important as membership. He discusses his experience of convincement, what it meant for early Friends to belong, and how anxieties about the future of Friends can be lessened by recognizing that the living Christ is greater than any institution. Publishers of the Truth, this spring's Friends' conference with Quaker Leadership Center, will feature a variety of workshops and plenaries as we discuss how we witness and publish the truth with integrity, in an age of fractured political realities and disinformation. One such plenary session will be led by Walid Morsarsaa and Andy Stanton-Henry (eldered by Lauren Brownlee) on "Publishing Truth in the Wider World." Do our Meetings make specific collective commitments to publication of T/truth in the wider world? What T/truths do we choose to publicize? How do we navigate the creative tension between localism and international engagement? This gathering will bring together LGBTQ+ participants from a range of ages and spiritual backgrounds, providing an opportunity to break bread together, recenter in openness to the Spirit, and create new connections as we celebrate what nourishes and sustains us across the generations. We will explore inherited spiritual practices that sustained our queer ancestors, including the fundamental practice of building shared spiritual community.
