A friendly reminder that at 2am "tonight", it is time to roll back the clocks 1 hour. This is a great time to also perform a few safety checks in your home and also schedule routine maintenance to your home: - Change batteries in smoke detectors - Check batteries or test them in 10 year or longer smoke detectors - Check and test batteries in carbon monoxide detectors - Check expiration date on fire extinguishers - Make sure all family members are trained on where fire extinguishers are located and how to use them - Schedule gutter and downspout cleaning if it is not included in your HOA or condo fees - Schedule filter changes for HVAC units - Schedule chimney cleaning and inspection prior to first use - Perform dryer vent cleaning - Turn off outdoor spigots. If they are not frost free; install a "boot" or similar frost protection cover. - Store garden hoses for the season and do not re-install until April 2025. - Prepare to review Snow and Ice Rules for your Community Association. Here's a fun summary of the link above. - You have to be at lease 150 feet away from any structure or vehicle, whether you are on your property or not. - Don't trespass! You need written approval in advance to set off fire works from another person's (or entity's) property. - Don't poke out an eye (or worse). Don't aim fireworks at another person, or pet. - Disaster Recover Teams appreciate time off.... don't create a community emergency over the weekend --- be sure fire works are not directed at any buildings or vehicles. - Stay Sober. If you are discharging fireworks, you cannot be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or under the influence of any other controlled substance. - Before calling the police...
